2013: THANK YOU, YOUR HONOR!

At my last summer concert series on the lawn at the Hamilton Library gazebo in August, my friend loyal concert attendee Nancy Briggs told me I was to receive the Proclamation as shown in the graphic. We had a crowd of nearly 60 people at the event. Unfortunately, Mayor Kelly Yaede was on vacation and she asked my friend Councilman Ed Gore to do the honors. I am proud to say I now have 3 proclamations! One from the Hamilton Council a few years back, and one from my friend, former Mayor of Hamilton, Glenn Gilmore. It's nice to be recognized. I intend to be a volunteer until I am no longer physically able to continue. In fact, we have a full house for my Kuser Farm Mansion program set for this Wednesday evening, October 2nd. Unfortunately, we had to turn a number of reservations down due to the fire code and the number of people in the room.

2012: TOM GLOVER'S SUMMER CONCERT SERIES

TIME IS GROWING SHORT! NEXT WEEK I WILL BE GOING TO THE KUSER PARK GAZEBO AND DOING A "DRY RUN" TO CHECK OUT THE AUDIO FOR THE UPCOMING SUMMER 2012 CONCERT SEASON.

Above is a photo of the 4 x 8 foot sign which Hamilton Township's extremely talented sign shop installed at the corner of Leonard and Newkirk Avenue announcing my 7th year of musical sing along concerts at Kuser Farm Park. I will be keeping this graphic on the top of this blog during the ensuing weeks. I hope to see a number of visitors to this website at one or more of these uplifting fun concerts. If you do attend, please be sure to say hello. My computer music repertoire has continued to grow over the past year and I will be doing many new songs including songs of faith and inspiration. The graphic below shows my initial appearance at the Kuser summer concerts back in 2006. It was a success, but there was an unforeseen glitch. The days get much shorter at the end of August, and unknown to me and the township, the lights were set to go out at dusk. So, halfway through the two hour event, the lights went out; the only light left burning was a single overhead light in the center column of the gazebo. With the main lights around the interior of the gazebo off , I was singing in the dark with only the night light and my computer screen emitting light. I asked those in attendance if they wanted me to call it a night and they responded with a resounding "no!" So as they say,"the show must go on". It did, and the next hour of darkness was enjoyed by all as we sang all those familiar oldies. As you can see on the sign in the photo below, those who preceded me were all paid professional musicians. I didn't expect, nor did I get the large attendance one would expect from professional talent. However, the 40 or so who did attend had a wonderful time and wanted my assurance that I would be back in 2007. I was, have been, and will continue as long as I am able, and as long as the township wants me.

2012: KUSER SUMMER CONCERTS

This week I will be going over to the Kuser gazebo and do a sound check in preparation for my upcoming summer concert series at the park. I have accumulated a number of more contemporary songs from Neil Diamond, Barry Mannilow, the Beach Boys, and other more contemporary artists. 'home to see some of my visitors there.

2012: SUMMER'S COMIN' ON!

Above is a page from one of the handout sheets that I used in my summer sing along presentations at the Kuser Park Gazebo. Plans are in the works to start the summer season in June this year. In the meantime, all you visitors who are old enough to remember these songs, and all of you who can carry a tune, sing one or two to your grandchildren!

2006: TOM GLOVER'S KUSER MANSION PROGRAMS

As Township time permits, I will be doing onscreen historic presentations and music programs at Kuser Mansion and also at the Hamilton Township Public Library meeting rooms. These programs will be of interest to those who are interested in our local history and also those who like to sing along to music from an era when there was lovely melody, understandable lyrics, and no twangy guitars and strobe lights. Just laid back "easy listening," "easy singing" songs that lift the spirit. Above is a graphic from 2006 detailing one of my on screen presentations at the Kuser Mansion.

I hope to see many of my local visitors there. We will be singing those great old love ballads as sung by Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Patti Page, Joni James and other popular songs from an ere when music had a dreamy influence with lovely melodies and understandable lyrics.

Throw in Vic Damone.by the way did you hear the so called rendition of the National Anthem in the super bowl. I changed channels right after the first few notes. Oughta be a law agains that sound.Lee

How right you are! "Mary in the morning" is one of my favorite Martino songs. As to these idiots who can't sing the National Anthem the way it was written, I just mute them out. Vic Damone was one of my favorite crooners. I'm not Italian, but I love his Italian language songs, I just don't understand how anyone who isn't tone deaf can appreciate that screeching.'

2011: THANK YOU FOR ATTENDING OUR LOCAL HISTORY NIGHT!

To say it was a success would be a gargantuan understatement. Over 110 citizens came to last night's local history program at the Hamilton Township Public Library's "HAMILTON LIBRARY LOCAL HISTORY THEATER." The program was to have been from 7 to 8:30 but at the end of the program, enthused attendees couldn't seem to get enough of this refreshing journey into the past. My special thanks to my dear friend Maury Perilli for attending. My high school buddy Gil Lugossy and his lovely wife Lee were also in attendance, along with many of my friends who have been following my music and history programs. Stay tuned; there is another program coming in February at the
"HAMILTON LIBRARY MUSIC THEATER;"
We will be celebrating St. Valentine's Day! It will be an evening of fun and nostalgia as we remember those classic love songs we grew up with.
Many of the lyrics will be projected on the screen for those who like to sing along. We are working on a date as this is being posted. STAY TUNED!

Hi Tom,

Wanted to thank you again for the incredible work you've done in preserving Trenton history. Most dear to my heart of course is Chambersburg and St. Joachim's Parish. Having been good friends with my dad, I'm sure you know how much he would have appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed your site. He also, no doubt, would have had much to add. I will go through his items to see what might be of interest to the community. (BTW, I gave mom your hug )

What a marvelous job you did last Wednesday night at the library with the first of your new presentations - Standing room only! And how fortunate we in Hamilton Township are for the assistance and cooperation of George Conwell, the director of the Library. Until attending your presentation, I had no idea that he was so very instrumental in the creation and success of your archives.
Also, I was honored to be present during your wonderful tribute to Maurice Perilli as he sat there in the audience. How amazing it was to witness his delight at seeing a very vintage photo of his parents for the first time! I believe that is at the heart of why you do what you do.

As we had discussed, I hope to come in to visit with you soon to share some "treasures." In the meantime, God bless, stay well and keep 'em coming.

2004: DENISE ZEMLANSKY AND TOM AT KUSER MANSION

It would have preferred that someone from Hamilton Township formally tell me that my community programs at Kuser Mansion were being discontinued, but alas, 3 unanswered emails and a query at this year's Winter Wonderland still resulted in no response. However, as Louise Baird my high school vocal music teacher told us, "when one door closes, another usually opens." And indeed, another door is being opened. I have spoken with Hamilton Library Director George Conwell, and have been assured that a room will be available to me for future music and local history programs. We are currently working on a January 2012 program.

2010: RE-CAPPING THE 2010 CONCERT SEASON

The summer of 2010 had to be the worst as far as the Sunday afternoon weather problems I faced as I brought my music program to Kuser Park for the 5th year. The incredible high heat and humidity, along with the constant threat of rain resulted in a very disappointing 7 weeks. On the other hand, given the aforementioned weather problems, the attendance was still surprisingly strong. Last Sunday (August 15) was touch and go, so those physically fit rugged stalwarts who attended sat under the gazebo and we had a good old fashioned sing along sitting around my sound system instead of a piano. A number of visitors chose to stay out under the trees and were apparently uninhibited by an occasional spritz. My last performance will be tomorrow afternoon, August 22nd; "same time, same station" as they used to say in radio days. I hope to see many of you there, weather permitting. Sunday's forecast? Yep, "possibility of a 'late' thunderstorm." I hope my friend Bob Orlowski has better luck with the weather than I did!

Speaking of Bob Orlowski, Check out the graphic above. Bob will appear next Sunday, August 29th, bringing his sophisticated vocals to the Kuser Park gazebo. Bob is a regular performer at the Hamilton Senior Center, and many other area venues. He will be doing his music program singing the songs of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Barry Manilow, and a number of other easy-to-listen-to vocalists. I hope to see you all there.

2010: .."AND THE DAYS DWINDLE DOWN TO A PRECIOUS FEW"

Borrowing from that famous "SEPTEMBER SONG" from the Broadway musical, "KNICKERBOCKER HOLIDAY," I note that my volunteer summer concerts are winding down. This Sunday weather permitting, I will once again set up my digital musical orchestra, and we will embark on week 6 of "MUSIC FOR A SUMMER NIGHT" at the Kuser Farm Park gazebo. Unlike the last couple of Sunday's, the weather man is calling for a clear, warm summer Sunday evening. Based upon the positive comments I have received from these weekly songfests, you will really have a wonderful evening! I hope to see you there.

2010: .."AND THE DAYS DWINDLE DOWN TO A PRECIOUS FEW"

Borrowing from that famous "SEPTEMBER SONG" from the Broadway musical, "KNICKERBOCKER HOLIDAY," I note that my volunteer summer concerts are winding down. We were rained out on Sunday July 25th, but a number of folks still showed up and were confronted with "EVENT CANCELED; WET GROUNDS" signs on the entrance ways to Kuser Park and on the center post of the gazebo. Rain left the platform on the gazebo wet, and I wasn't about to ground myself with a microphone and an amplifier. "Tom Glover Electrocuted?" No way! However, even though the weather again threatened on Sunday afternoon, August 1st, I journeyed over, and with my son Tom's able assistance, at 5:30, we set up for another Sunday afternoon of music and nostalgia. At quarter to 6 it was just Tom Glover, the Kuser Farm birds, and no audience. Along came Kuser Farm Foreman, Bobby DePastina who along with his lovely little daughter, hauled the green benches into the performance area and placed the benches. At 6 PM there was no one there. I was prepared to carry all the equipment back to storage, but decided to wait 5 or 10 minutes. One by one, cars arrived to see if there was to be a song fest. Two cars, then three, then slowly folks began to arrive to see if we were a "go." A little after six, I welcomed the very few stalwarts who aren't intimidated by the weather, and began the program. By 6:30 or perhaps 6:45, cars began to arrive and by actual count, 15 cars arrived and as they say in that Broadway slogan, "The Show Must Go On!" And it did. It turned out to be a lovely evening, and those 35 or so attendees really enjoyed the music we grew up with. Next week, weather permitting, I will once again set up my digital musical orchestra, and we will embark on week 6 of music for a summer night at Kuser Farm Park. I hope to see you there!

SUNDAY'S KUSER GAZEBO PROGRAM CANCELED

Unfortunately, my Sunday, July 25 Kuser music program was a complete washout. I am quite aware that these summer storms come and go quite rapidly. Around 3:30 or so, as the clouds thickened in the west, I knew that there would be a period of rain. There sure was! I made up a few "EVENT CANCELED; WET GROUNDS" signs, but wasn't really sure I would need them. At 5PM, I drove over to the park with the signs, not sure that I would use them. It was still drizzling, but the skies to the west were brightening and I knew that before long the sun would be shining, it cooled down considerably, and as I walked around the grassy area I noted that the grass was quite wet in the shady area under the trees where visitors sit. A trip to the gazebo sealed the deal. The floor was still holding puddles from the torrential rain. Having a bit of experience in radio-TV, and computers and the hazards attending them, I decided to cancel the program. I wasn't about to stand on a damp or wet wooden floor holding a mike and diddling with sound controls in a hazardous environment. 200 pound guys like me holding a microphone makes a great electrical conductor!
The "EVENT CANCELED; WET GROUNDS" signs were posted on the two entrances to the park and also on the center column of the gazebo. Being quite familiar with the wonderful folks who attend my programs, I know that there were a number who went to see if the program was on. Sorry to have disappointed you, but we'll be back in what I understand is to be a very nice weekend.
(Weather permitting in fickle Central Jersey, of course!)
