WILSON AND STOKES LUMBER CO: THE CIVIL WAR CAMP PERRINE CONNECTION

This graphic is for the "hard core" historian who loves the heritage of the Trenton of yesteryear, and also loves local Civil War memories. These two graphics come together after being separated by a number of years. The graphic on the right was in my "BUSINESSES-TRENTON" folder for many years (1983). Then along came the photo on the right just today to join in a dual graphic of historic interest. Fascinating!

1923: JOHN CLEARY'S VINTAGE CHAMBERSBURG

This graphic may not be of interest to those who are not interested in early local history relating to the evolution of today's neighborhoods. It is one of my favorite subjects, and any time I find truly pertinent articles and photos they will be digitized and saved. The above article is by John Cleary, my very favorite Trenton Times historical writer. Mr. Cleary lived during the time that many 19th century area residents were still alive to tell their stories. The above Camp Perrine information is completely captivating.

1909: WHERE ONCE STOOD CAMP PERRINE

When I saw this article and photo, I immediately hoped that it would indicate that the stables in the photo were a part of the Civil War campsite, "Camp Perrine." But alas, it was not to be. The Wilson and Stokes Company was a major supplier of lumber to many builders in the first decade of the 20th century. I recall the fire that destroyed the company, but I can't recall when it happened.
