EDGEBROOK SCHOOL - Circa 1900

The graphic above relates information on the old Edgebrook School which was located on the North West corner of Klockner Road and Route 13, across from today's sprawling Hamilton Marketplace. The old school served farm children from the area, including from the neighboring "Grafton" and Dilatush farms on the Hamilton-Robbinsville border. The hand written letter from Emily Moyer would have ended up in the recycle bin had it not been for my friend and former Mayor Al DeMartin who agreed with me that the material should be saved for posterity. Accordingly, there are many very historic documents in the collection I and Al saved from the recycle bin.

1915: DEDICATING THE NEW EDGEBROOK SCHOOL

The article above does NOT refer to the photo of the original Edgebrook school, shown in the photo. The article is referring to the red brick school house on Route 130 that was closed years ago. Most recently it was the meeting place of the American Legion.

Thanks to Gary Lippincott (http://www.blogger.com/www.grovevillememories.blogspot.com), I have learned that the veterans' building that I couldn't remember was POST 31. Thanks, Gary....you're the best.

1905: Fire at the Dilatush Farm

The late Don Dilatush was one of Hamilton's environmental and historian treasures. Don walked the woods and fields around the Edgebrook area of Hamilton, finding countless Indian relics, and the uncanny skill at identifying every tree, weed, and living creature. He and centenarian Bob Simpkins, were both experts on the history of the Yardville-Edgebrook area of Hamilton. I was a regular reader of Don's weekly columns on his ramblings about the sprawling Dilatush farm. He and Bob Simpkins were two of the most knowledgable members of the Hamilton Township Historical Society.

1935:EDWARD DILATUSH OBIT

The Dilatush family is legendary in the history of the Edgebrook area of Hamilton. Most recently, the family conducted a Holly farm along Route 130. In earlier years, there was a fertilizer processing plant on the site.
