1929: Nottingham Fire Co.; The Way it Was

Last evening I spent a wonderful evening at the Nottingham Ballroom, the magnificent hall constructed by the guys and gals at the Nottingham Fire Company. It brought back memories of the austere beginnings of this very prominent Hamilton fire company. What a difference 80 years makes. The photo above has been copied from the 1929 dedicatory booklet published by the fire company for public distribution. Thanks to Mrs. Judy Kolpack for donating it to the Hamilton Library where it is safely filed in the "HAMILTON SQUARE" folder.

1941: Nottingham Fire Company's New Officers

The Hamilton Square and Nottingham VFD Folders in the library are of much historic interest. The West family, the Cubberleys, Hutchinsons, McCabe's and other old families provide fascinating historical research material.

1929: DEDICATION OF NOTTINGHAM VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPT.

HERE'S A PHOTO OF THE ORIGINAL NOTTINGHAM FIRE HOUSE, AND THE PROGRAM SURROUNDING THE DEDICATION CEREMONY. THE AUSTERE LITTLE BUILDING IN THE ILLUSTRATION HAS BEEN TRANSFORMED INTO THE SUMPTUOUS BUILDING NOW HOUSING NOTTINGHAM IN ORDER TO SERVE THE GROWING AREA OF HAMILTON SQUARE.

1929: NOTTINGHAM VFD DEDICATION

THIS IS AN INTERESTING PAGE FROM ONE OF MY SCRAPBOOKS. THE ORIGINAL WAS SOMEWHAT FADED WITH AGE, BUT WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF MY COMPUTER GRAPHICS PROGRAM, I HAVE MANAGED TO RESTORE IT TO PRISTINE ORIGINAL CONDITION.

1947: NOTTINGHAM VFD NEEDS A NEW PUMPER

THEIR 1926 PUMPER WAS SORELY IN NEED OF REPLACING. NOTE THE TAX IMPACT WHICH CHIEF FOLEY QUOTED. AHH, THOSE WERE INDEED THE GOOD OLD DAYS!

1939: CARNIVALS WERE POPULAR

YES, THAT IS BOB HOPE'S "LES BROWN, THE BAND OF REKNOWN" WITH WHICH WE ARE ALL FAMILAR. OF COURSE, THIS WAS BEFORE HIS BAND MADE THE BIG TIME. THE MERCERVILLE FIRE COMPANY'S CARNIVAL WAS FINISHING AND THE NOTTINGHAM FIRE GUYS GAVE THE AREA A SENSE OF CONTINUITY.

Mercerville Fire Company Carnivals. I remember seeing Bunny Berrigans Orchestra at what I believe is now Mercerville Shopping Center. It seemed so far from home at that Time. My older brother transported us there.

1936: Those Long Forgotten Neighborhood Carnivals

The guys at Nottingham Volunteer Fire Company, White Horse Volunteer Fire Company, Holy Angels Church, St. Anthony's Church, and numerous other local entities held annual neighborhood carnivals which were well attended and very successful. Here's one for Nottingham. I would like to know where the carnival grounds were in relation to today's route 33 if any viewer has that information.
