1909: MAHLON STACY'S TRENTON

I filed this editorial cartoon which I found in the very deteriorating pages of an old scrapbook. I filed it in a folder I call "WHIMSICAL." It shows Mahlon Stacy giving the boot to those natives who dared to exist in an area they had inhabited for who knows how many years before the arrival of the European, Spanish, and other foreign invaders.

1912: MAHLON STACY EARLY TRENTON LAND HOLDINGS

At this time each year, thought of Washington crossing the Delaware, his journey to Trenton on that fateful night in 1776, the mill of Mahlon Stacy, pioneer of Trenton, along with William Trent, the fabled Old Barracks in Trenton dating back to the French and Indian War,all come together as part of the romance of the very early years of the city of Trenton. I found this graphic from the "MAPS" folder in the Hamilton Library's Digital collection to be completely fascinating. I must admit that I had a difficult time placing the map over a current map of that area of Trenton in orer to get an idea of where some of the more obscure plots of land were located. I leave that to the good folks who have scholarly knowledge of the heritage of William Trent, Mahlon Stacy, the Old Barracks and other knowledge of the Colonial area we know of today as Trenton.
