2012: REMEMBERING MARY DUFFY; A STEINERT HIGH SCHOOL TREASURE

The Hamilton Township Board of Education has been very successful in placing outstanding teachers in the Hamilton school system. I have written countless columns relating to Louse Baird, Ruth Margerum, and many many other teachers who shaped my life and influenced me back in my malleable early years. Such is obviously the case with Mrs. Duffy. I received an email from my friend Alan Wildblood asking that I ad a link to my website for this very popular Steinert teacher. I did a bit of extra footwork relating to Mrs. Duffy and have added her photo from my Hamilton High yearbook collection, and also the announcement of her wedding on Christmas Eve, 1944.

Tom - Just a comment/question - when did the Retrospice become the Retrospect? Every yearbook that I have seen from way back up to today is called Retrospect, including my own Class of 1960 yearbook. Wondering if you know about this.

1981: STEINERT GIRLS' SOCCER CHAMPIONS

These young ladies made a name for themselves 30 years ago as they became the Central and South Jersey State Championship. I see Cindy Soffel, daughter of Hamilton High soccer champ, Bob Soffel, along with Lisa Gmitter.

1981: STEINERT HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' SOCCER TEAM HAS A 20-1 SEASON

Thirty years ago! This was one red hot Steinert soccer team. As I recall, Ms. Gmitter made many articles in the local press as this team went on to a 20-1 victory run. I had to "Photo Shop" the image of "Cinder;" his dark features were indistinguishable in the original Mercer Messenger photo.

1976: STEINERT CELEBRATES THE BICYCENTENNIAL YEAR

Here we see the planting of the area to be known as Steinert's "Bicentennial Grove" landscaped with trees donated by Lou Makrancy. True patriotic spirit of which Steinert can be proud,.

1976: STEINERT "SPARTANETTES" CAPTURE FIRST PLACE IN ATLANTIC CITY

The lovely Steinert High School "Spartanettes" made Hamilton Township proud back in 1976 when they took first place at the National Music Festival in Atlantic City.

1986: STEINERT "STRAIGHT A" STUDENTS

Back in my years at Hamilton High,"Straight A" students were known as "Top Drawer Academics." In all my years in grammar and high school, I achieved honor roll status a number of times, but never reached the status of straight A's.

1987: STEINERT SPARTANS' ATHLETIC AWARDS

Spartans forever! Hard as it may seem, these Spartan athletic teens are at, or approaching 40. How time flies! To those of us in the senior citizen community, 1987 is only yesterday. However, when I consider the fact that I am now a great grandfather, everything comes into focus. Time waits for no one.

1959: Steinert Latin Awards

I always knew my friend Alan Wildblood was a cut above those of us with average intelligence quotients. The above photo proves it as we see Alan seated with other Steinert classmates who acheived excellence in Latin.

1959: STEINERT CLASS NIGHT

With their 50th reunion on the horizon, I managed to find a couple of 1959 Steinert items, one of which is posted above.

1970: STEINERT HY-LITER PAGE 1 OF 5

I posted this Steinert "Hy-Liter" a number of weeks ago, and heard from my European colleague/historian Alan Wildblood, who gave me a heads up that the scan was illegible. Accordingly, I have scanned each page in higher definition, and in order to maintain legibility have posted the 5 pages as individual posts. I will delete the former illegible post.

1980: KATHY CSORGO'S SENIOR BALL

Kathy has been one of my more loyal visitors in the 5 years I have been maintaning this website. Many of her father's amateur radio QSL cards (acknowledgement cards) are on display at another of my websites dedicated to old time radio and amateur radio (www.gloveradio.blogspot.com). Kathy and her brother Steve have donated a sizeable file of Csorgo family memories, and they will be published as time permits.

1994: STEINERT'S TOP 12 SPARTANS

There they are ladies and gentlemen, the "top of the crop" scholastically at Steinert High School during the year 1994. How I wished that I had the intellectual abilities of those fellow students who were members of the "Honor Society" during my high school years. But alas, that math...

1978: Steinert Spartans Group IV Cross Country Team

Many thanks to Tom Porter for this photo. It does bring back pleasant memories to those Spartans from the era of the 70's, and those of us who recall the now-distant 1970's Tom Writes:

Tom,

Attached is a team photo of Steinert's 1978 central Jersey Group IV champion cross country team. The coaches were Jerry Bleistein (L, sitting), Doug Martin (L, standing) and Andre Modica (R, standing).

Doug Martin and his brother Dave were in Steinert's class of '64 (as shown in the commencement program you posted). Both would serve our country in Vietnam and make it out alive. Dave recently published a book on his Vietnam experiences, "Crazy Asian War". Would you be able to post this picture on your Steinert website?

Thanks,

Tom Porter, Steinert class of '79

1989 STEINERT CLASS OF '89 WEBSITE

Congratulations to the Spartans from the class of '89 for a beautiful website! Click on or cut and paste http://www.steinert1989.com and check it out; unlike the Steinert alumni website, you don't have to be an alumnus to access the site. I have been looking for the lyrics to Steinert's school song, but unfortunately the aforementioned alumni website is only open to Steinert alumni.

1989: STEINERT KEY CLUB

Those of us who have been active in class reunions will agree that one of the questions most asked as the affair is being organized is "Does anyone have any pictures or programs for the display table?" Well, I am going to try to help in my own small way by posting relevent photos and articles from dates that coincide with a specific reunion year; in this case, 1989, which just happens to be a 20 year gap. Herewith a photo of the Steinert Key Club from 1989. It maybe of interest to those Steinert Spartans who just might be planning a 20th reunion. Enjoy!
