These lovely ladies were candidates for "Miss St. Patrick" 24 years ago. They are now in their 40's. Where has the time gone?

2012: TRENTON'S ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE

Thousands lined the streets just like the old days as the Trenton St. Patrick's Day parade was presented under the most spring like conditions ever. Usually, the day is brisk and sometimes windy, but yesterday was ideal. I took these 3 photos before my battery decided to die (I thought I had just re-charged it, but never considered that it was a month ago.) Above is a photo of the gathering crowd as they assembled. This photo was taken at 12:10 and the parade was set to kick off at 12:30. A delay occurred when the officers were late arriving from Mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Chambersburg. I took a few quiet moments to speak with the Lord, recalling the many happy years I spent as a parishioner at that magnificent building on South Olden Avenue. The lower photo is an amazingly accurate depiction of St. Patrick, as portrayed by Dennis Keenan's son, Tim; a true semblance of the revered Saint.

2011: COMING SOON TO A TOWN NEAR YOU: ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE

In only a few weeks,we will be joining in on that annual "wearin' o' the green" St. Patrick's Day Celebration. This year, as last there will be a Hamilton parade, and the traditional Trenton parade. Above is a photo of "Irish Billy Briggs" who passed away much to early in life. In years past, I still see him proudly singing the Irish National Anthem in front of St. Anthony of Padua Church on Hamilton Avenue in Hamilton Township. The Glover connection to Irish heritage is an interesting situation. My father was born in Longton, Stoke on Trent in England. My wife's Irish family heritage is Kelly green Irish, with Belfast being her grandmother's birthplace. When my father was alive, the subject of the British involvement was always discussed on St. Patrick's Day. My father was a hopeless left wing liberal. Whenever the subject of St. Patrick's Day came up, I can still hear the old man opining that the Brits "should get the hell out of Ireland."

2011: HAMILTON PAYS A WELL-DESERVED TRIBUTE TO "IRISH" BILLY BRIGGS

I attended the very touching ceremony at the intersection of Francis and Hamilton Avenue yesterday as the curtain was torn off of the Francis Avenue signpost and the Irish Billy Briggs Avenue sign was posted. Billy Briggs was a fierce supporter of freedom for Northern Ireland.

2010: HAMILTON'S IRISH FLAG RAISING CEREMONY

Here we see Hamilton's own Mayor John Bencivengo with lovely Miss St. Patrick 2010, Brittany Patten raising the Irish flag over at the Hamilton Municipal building on Greenwood Avenue. Thanks to Councilman Kevin Meara who kick-started this now annual affair. The ceremony was incredibly interesting. It was especially nice to see Deacon Bill Wilson again after so many years.

1984: ST. PATRICK'S DAY AT MCCORRISTIN H.S.

HERE'S A PHOTO WHICH WILL WARM THE HEART OF ST. ANTHONY/MCCORRISTIN OLD TIMERS. MANY OF US MISS THE "OLD" ST. ANTHONY CHURCH WHEN THE "IRON MIKE" MSGR. MCCORRISTIN WAS AT THE HELM AND WORKED WITH ST. ANTHONY LEGENDS FATHER DANNY CAHILL AND SISTER MARGUERITE O'BEIRNE. THEY WERE GOOD YEARS.

1989 St. Patrick's Day Parade

How I miss that 1961 Rambler! It was owned by Miss Louise Baird, my adopted aunt, and had only 56,000 miles on it when I got it. HOWEVER, it was never garaged and through the years the Nash "Unibody" construction (no "A" frame) was rusted out and the car became a safety hazard, However, during the 15 years I had it in my garage, I managed to extend its life by a few thousand miles. Here you see it in the 1989 Trenton/Hamilton St. Patrick's Day parade. At one to the annual parades, it was my privilege to chauffeur Monsignor McCorristin through the parade route. He loved the old antique, and kept remarking that there was enough room in the front seat to stretch out completely, which he did. He also liked the easy reach of the ash tray on the all steel dash.
