2012: HOW I WISH WE HAD MORE BOY SCOUTS

I was not in the Boy Scouts when I was in my youthful years, and I am sorry I was not. My oldest brother Len, along with my old friend Webster "Webb" Grimm conducted a boys' group known as the "Lynx Club" back in the late 1930's and early 40's. My fellow amateur radio friend Gary Wilson has been a leader in the Mercer County area as a catalyst for bringing young boys into that worthy boys' organization. Show me a military veteran and I will show you a patriot and good citizen. Show me an accomplished boy scout and I will show you a patriot and good citizen. The discipline and training these young boys (and girls for the girl scouts) are subjected to are really teaching them the art of living.

1910: Scouting Comes to the Trenton Area

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA CENTENNIAL: FEBRUARY 1910 - FEBRUARY 2010

Abject apologies for this very poor copy of the above article detailing the Boy Scouts of America as they began to form here in our local area. The boy scouts have been an inspiration to many in our community for the good works that they do.

1938: JUST LOOK AT ALL THOSE BOYS' CLUBS!

I have often heard my two older brothers, Len and Bud talk about their involvement with boy's clubs back in the 1930's. They are both in their 80's now, but fondly recall the St. Paul's P.E. Church boys' club which they were both members of. Also, older brother Len recalls the "Lynx" Club which he and old time Glover family friend Webb Grimm were a part of in the late 30's and early '40's. Perhaps a revival of boys' clubs in Trenton area churches would do a lot to give some of our younger boys the opportunity to engage in a wholesome activity.

A NOTE FROM TOM:
DUE TO THE NEAR FULL PAGE SIZE OF THIS GRAPHIC, I HAVE OPTED TO SCAN IT IN "B&W," WHICH REMOVES ALL SHADES OF GRAY AND ONLY ALLOWS FOR BLACK ON WHITE IN A GRAPHIC. THE "B&W" MODE USES MUCH LESS SPACE THAN MY NORMAL "JPEG "GRAY SCALE" SCANS AND WORKS WELL AS LONG AS THERE ARE NO PHOTOGRAPHS TO REPRODUCE.

1934: "DO A GOOD DAILY"

THIS IS TROOP 2 HEADQUARTERED AT BETHANY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH ON HAMILTON AVENUE. THE DEPRESSION RESULTED IN HARD TIMES FOR COUNTLESS CITIZENS AND THE BOYS SCOUTS WERE THERE TO OFFER THEIR ASSISTANCE.

1947: KEEPING THE YOUTH ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT IS SADLY LACKING IN OUR PRESENT SOCIETY. VIDEO GAMES, IPODS, AND OTHER ELECTRONIC DIVERSIONS HAS REPLACED SOCIAL INTERCOURSE WITH ELECTRONIC OBSESSION.

1935: Jewish Women Donate Flag

These ladies took the time to recognize the good works of the Boy Scouts of Ameria, and presented a flag to their leader.
