1926: GETHSEMENE BAPTIST CHURCH

This photo will be familiar to those of us who loved in the Greenwood-Wilbur-Bromley area over the years. the church still stands. A correction is due, thanks to my friend Alan Wildblood who corrected my former caption that the church is no longer a Baptist church.The building is still a Baptist church known as the Macedonia Baptist Church. The church is well attended, and based on my observation of the cars lined all along Greenwood and Garfield Avenues on Sunday mornings. Note that I have also changed the copyright title from GethsemEne to GethsemAne.

1926:WILBUR'S GETHSEMANE BAPTIST CHURCH

This gorgeous vintage photo of Trenton's Gethsemene Baptist Church, like neighboring St. James P.E. Church has been vacated and is now the home of the Macedonia Baptist Church community. The tree in the foreground is long gone. A CVS pharmacy now occupies the lot on the left, out of the picture. The graphic below shows the home page banner of the current tenants of what was Gethsemane Baptist Church at 1300 Greenwood Avenue. Macedonia Baptist Church acquired the property on November 2, 1980.

 I have removed all comments relating to my original post wherein I mis-spelled Gethsemane, (Thanks Alan W. for the correction.) I have removed the comments that revolved around my choice of words and re-posting the entire page for the benefit of future visitors who are using the net to search for "Gethsemane Baptist Church." I didn't like the direction in which my original description was written and the veiled controversy accompanying it.

1908 TO 1917 FROM WILBUR CHAPEL TO GETHSEMANE BAPTIST CHURCH

Many of my Protestant friends were members of Gethsemane Baptist Church at the corner of Greenwood and Garfield Avenues in Trenton. The church of my youth and before I converted to Catholicism was St. James Protestant Episcopal Church on Greenwood and Logan Avenues; a mere stone's throw from Gethsemane. The church has since been closed and the building now occupied by another faith based church.
