1875: C.V. MEADE ESTATE - HAMILTON AVENUE AT NOTTINGHAM WAY

Earlier this week in a previous web page, I posted a news photo of the C.V. Meade estate

with a news photo of the mansion shown in the engraving above. This engraving is a true historic treasure. Today, that area is the site of Lockwood's Electric Motor Repair, the Hamilton Republican Club (former Barton Francis auto dealer), and on the Hamilton Avenue side the home of the Old Heidelberg Restaurant, today the site of DeFrank's Appliance store.

1913: Tom Speculates

The beautiful mansion illustrated with that fancy mansard roof was once the home of C.V. Meade, of the very earliest Mercer Rubber Company. Meade's estate was located in the triangle-shaped area of land between today's Nottingham Way and Hamilton Avenue in Mercerville. Mr. Meade had a beautifully landscaped estate on that plot of land. I have super-imposed a segment of a Hamilton Township map to show the triangular area of the Meade estate.

1923: A SCARCE MERCER RUBBER LETTERHEAD

THIS VERY ATTRACTIVE LETTERHEAD HAS BEEN IN MY COLLECTION FOR MORE THAN 45 YEARS. I WAS ALWAYS FASCINATED WITH THE MERCER RUBBER COMPANY AND THE MEADE CONNECTION. THE MEADE MANSION WAS LOCATED WITHIN THE AREA WHERE HAMILTON AVENUE AND NOTTINGHAM WAY CONVERGE. TODAY'S LOCKWOOD'S ELECTRIC AND THE FORMER HEIDELBERG RESTAURANT.

1891: Mercer Rubber Company

Here's an unusual invoice from my personal collection of local mercantile paperwork. As any "local" from the Mercer County, N.J. area will attest, Mercer has been in the news lately with a controversial debate on whether or not the old rubber company dumped cancer causing toxic waste in the surrounding area during it's more than 100 years of operation in Hamilton Square.

This very rare photo from my collection is a view of the Mercer Rubber Co. I have no date, but suspect it was taken in the early part of the 20th century.

This fascinating photo is from an undated postal card. In the lower right, " Rubber Mill, Hamilton Square, NJ" was overprinted in white type. I removed it with my graphics program to preserve the essence of the photo. I am assuming that this is the Mercer Rubber Company. In a word:
FASCINATING! I would guess the date of this photo to be around 1910. Any viewer with information on this exquisite photo?
