1941: The German-American Bund

Northern New Jersey was one of the hotbeds of the German-American Bund during the 1930's. There were many Bund members who were very early supporters of the
National Socialists until they began to show their real colors in the early 1940's.

1945: BUND LEADER FRITZ KUHN

THE FIRST AMENMENT PROTECTED THE NAZI SYMPATHIZERS IN THE GERMAN BUND HERE IN AMERICA DURING THE PRE WWII YEARS. EVENTUALLY, FRITZ WAS DEPORTED TO HIS HOMELAND.

1940: THE GERMAN AMERICAN BUND UNDER FIRE

THE BUND WAS GETTING QUITE MILITANT BACK IN THE LATE 30'S AND EARLY 40'S, RIGHT UP TO THE ADVENT OF WWII IN 1939. THERE WERE NUMEROUS GERMAN-AMERICAN CITIZENS WHO WERE WERE PRO GERMANY.

1940: The German-American Bund

Back in the 1930's and early 1940's, before America declared war on Nazi Germany, and long before the Nazi horrors were being committed, there were numerous pro "Third Reich" political organizations. One of the most prominent meeting places was right here in northern New Jersey in Sussex County's "Camp Nordland." Future posts will continue to look for other articles involving this interesting facet of our local history.

1940: Registering Aliens

How appropriate that the Hamilton Library's Local History WWII folder has this article on rounding up and registering immigrants. This registration project took place early in the war. At the time, Americans were uncomfortable with the pro-Nazi German Bund and with other anti American factions who could assemble into what was then known as a "fifth column."

1938: The Pre-WWII German Bund Comes to Trenton

Before the atrocities committed by the Nazi party during WWII, there was an organization which proclaimed their enemies to be the Communists who were infiltrating American labor organizations. Wherever they went, the police were sure to follow. The group was te cause numerous civil unrest as the article indicates.
