1986: THE DAY THE KU KLUX KLAN CAME TO HAMILTON TOWNSHIP

As we all know, February is Black History Month. Part of that celebration must include the negative aspects of the black experience in America's past. Nowhere is that experience more negative than one finds in the pages of yesterday's newspapers as accounts of anti black outrages were committed all over the United States. Above is an article I wrote in 1986, recalling a Klan auto parade and rally that culminated in  Springdale Park in Yardville. .

1925: THE KU KLUX KLAN HISTORY AND IN NEW JERSEY

In this year of 2011, with all the societal changes America has made insofar as racial segregation is concerned, it is difficult to imagine the 1920's when the Ku Klux Klan held forth in many New Jersey cities. Years ago for Black History month, I did an article entitled, "The Klan Comes to Hamilton," telling of a auto parade through Hamilton streets by Klan members which terminated down in Spring Hill Park for a Klan rally.

1920: ROUNDING UP THE "REDS"

Back in the 1920's, the Communist Party and the Ku Klux Klan were frequently the subject of news coverage. The Communist party in 1920's America was made up of a large number of immigrants to the U.S.A. As seen in the article above, the local area was not immune from those who embraced the "Communist Manifesto."

1926: KU KLUX KLAN DAY AT THE MT. HOLLY FAIR

Back in the 1920's, there were many stories of Klan rallies all over New Jersey. Indeed, there was a rally at Yardville's Spring Lake Park back in the 1920's. A number of years ago, I wrote a column relating to that rally. The local gentry contained pro and anti-Klan citizens. During the rally, a number of anti Klan citizens went through the parking lot and punctured many auto tires. The above graphic cites the rally at Mt. Holly. Southern N.J. was a very active venue for the Klan.

1870: KLAN ATROCITIES

I HAVE BEEN GOING THROUGH MY "KU KLUX KLAN" FOLDER AND FOUND A FEW ARTICLES ON THE UNBELIEVABLE ATROCITIES PERPETRATED BY THE KLAN JUST AFTER THE CIVIL WAR. THIS IS ONE OF THEM. MORE TO COME IN FUTURE POSTS.
