The New DeCou School Date Unknown

The photo above is from an old glass slide from the early part of the 20th century. I am trying to determine when the school was built. If any visitor happens to know, please contact me.

1937: RUTH KELLER - KUSER AND DE COU SCHOOLS

This young lady was a straight "A" student throughout her years at Kuser Grammar School. She ultimately went on to be a teacher at the late, great DeCou School on South Broad Street. She lived just up the street on Newkirk and Kuser Avenue (Today's Leonard Avenue)and was a classmate of my sister Dorothy.

1954: DeCou School

I have been perusing the "DE COU" folder in the library's local history files. I put this vignette together from a little yearbook given to me by the late Ruth Keller, a neighbor who was a teacher at DeCou in the 50's.

This early photo of the DeCou School was transferred from a very old glass negative. Thanks to modern photo imaging software, I was able to clean it up and present it herewith.

1937: HAMILTON SCHOOL PLAYGROUNDS

EACH SUMMER, THE TOWNSHIP OF HAMILTON THREW OPEN THEIR SCHOOL PLAYGROUNDS FOR THE USE OF THE KIDS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. ILLUSTRATED HERE ARE KIDS PLAYING AT THE MAPLE SHADE AND DECOU PLAYGROUNDS. THE POST THAT FOLLOWS IS FROM THE SAME SUNDAY TIMES ADVERTISER PICTORIAL.

1941: DE COU SCHOOL PTA

FEW PEOPLE RECALL THE DECOU SCHOOL WHICH WAS ONCE LOCATED ON SOUTH BROAD STREET NEAR THE OLD PATHMARK SUPER MARKET. THE LOCAL HISTORY COLLECTION HAS A PHOTO OF THE GREAT OLD SCHOOL THANKS TO THE LATE RUTH KELLER DORNSTAUDER WHO TAUGHT THERE FOR MANY YEARS.
