1929: Nottingham Fire Co.; The Way it Was

Last evening I spent a wonderful evening at the Nottingham Ballroom, the magnificent hall constructed by the guys and gals at the Nottingham Fire Company. It brought back memories of the austere beginnings of this very prominent Hamilton fire company. What a difference 80 years makes. The photo above has been copied from the 1929 dedicatory booklet published by the fire company for public distribution. Thanks to Mrs. Judy Kolpack for donating it to the Hamilton Library where it is safely filed in the "HAMILTON SQUARE" folder.

Where was the old fire house located?

Hi Frank: Unless someone comes up with another location, I believe the location was the current Mercer Street location.

Tom:
I noticed that the building had a large second floor. What was it used for?

SORRY TO SAY I WAS A COLONIAL VFD NEIGHBOR, JOE. PERHAPS A NATIVE HAMILTON SQUARE RESIDENT CAN ANSWER YOUR QUERY.

This building is now the union hall behind the old Hooper store in the middle of the Square (Hamilton) on Yardville HS Rd.
