Wednesday, December 7, 2011 will be the 70th anniversary of the "dastardly attack" on Pearl Harbor. It is sheer irony that we saw it coming in the mid 1930's when Japan invaded China in their quest for expansion in the orient. We let complacency take the place of common sense and of course we paid for it 6 years later when the prophetic article from 1935 was written

Tom, the Navy held huge exercises called Fleet Problems, each being designate with a Roman numeral. 1935's was Fleet Problem XVI.

An earlier exercise used just one aircraft carrier to sieze control of the Panama Canal.
