I was only 3 years old when this photo was taken. The old bank is still there on the corner as is the fabled red brick building with the "widow's watch" on top which has changed hands many times over these many years.

1936 WAS THE YEAR I PLAYED WITH THE SCHROTHS AND I CAN RECALL ALL THE WALKING TO JUNIOR 4 FROM VILLA PARK WE HAD TO PUT UP WITH. THAT CLOCK ON THE BANK BUILDING CAME IN HANDY TO FIGURE OUT HOW MUCH TIME WE HAD LEFT IN NOT REPORTING LATE FOR SCHOOL. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES. HAPPY NEW YEAR.
With all the talk about baseball, I am reminded that the building on the right next to Poreda's bar and rooming house with the widow's watch was where the "famous" Bo Belinsky's dad had a radio repair shop. What year did he pitch that no hitter? Is he still around? Last I recall he was dating Mamie Van Doren the actress.
HEY MIKE.....BO BELINSKY WAS BORN IN 1936 AND DIED IN 2004. HE WAS BORN THE YEAR I PLAYED WITH THE SCHROTHS. HE WOULD HAVE BEEN ONE OF THE GREAT ONES BUT LET THE LADIES GET THE BEST OF HIM. MAY HE REST IN PEACE. HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Bo played in Hawaii before we moved out there. Became a beach bum. Saved a surfer and later said, "I would have married her, even if her Daddy didn't own Weyerhauser Lumber". Had twins. Then got sick and died at only 64 I think. I read his book years ago, Pitching and Wooing with Bo. Had a comment about Mamie Van Dooren's limo pulling up on dirty Hewitt St, in dirty downtown Trenton. Or something similar that, made me laugh. He tried making amends near the end but was too late.

I don't think he could have made the Schroths.
Best wishes Ralphie
