1938: TERNSTED DIVISION OF GM, EWING NJ

It was a sad day in the area when economic problems caused the closing down of one of the Mercer County area's most important manufacturing plants. American labor was unable to compete with the salaries paid to workers in foreign countries, and little by little, beginning in the early to mid 1950's, America began to lose millions of jobs to cheaper overseas labor.

Hi Tom: I tried my best to get a job there when they opened but the list of applications were great. My brother managed to get hired and a lot of my friends also were lucky, Their hourly wages were much higher than any other plant in the Trenton area. Eventually, it turned out to be the best place to get a job and was a painful loss when they closed. Best regards.
