1910: WHERE WAS "BATERTOWN ROAD?"

There are a few enduring mysteries in the local history of our area. One of them was a photo from this same photographer who depicted a Yardville street as "Groille" road. It took the eagle eye of Groveville's Gary Lippincott to realize that the photo was probably "Groveville" without the "vev."(It never entered my mentally challenged brain!) There is another Yardville mystery in the above photo depicting "Batertown Road." If there is a person who is knowledgeable in the history of Yardville, I would like to hear from him or her. Armed only with my limited knowledge of the area, I am wondering if the intersection in the photo could be route 156, the camera person taking the photo from the southern portion. The top image is a gray scale scan of the "corner store" in the photo. It gives a bit more detail when scanned at 500 dpi. The sign has been enlarged and enhanced. The "Ice Cream" and "Piedmont" cigarette sign are relatively legible. Also, what appears to be a child's rocking horse in the lower photo is actually a gentleman sitting in the yard.

Hi Tom:)
A misspelling of
Tattletown Road perhaps?

I doubt it, Mack. This was a series of 3postcards, two of which were Yardville, and I do believe it is Route 156.

Is there any chance this might be the Yardville Inn?

Tom..I found under another folder "Hamilton Views of" a post from November 19 2005 with a picture showing the old Yardville School and the O.U.A.M. Building with a caption below reading "Battertown Rd is today's Route 156".
Hope this helps
