1936: E. STATE ST. AT BROAD CLOSEUP

This is a close up extract from the original which I had posted some time ago. Great store front shots of our "five and dimes" with only the "CO." showing from Woolworth's.

Way up at the top right, William Warren Barbour, a Republican from Monmouth Beach, failed to win his re-election effort in 1936.

He recognized the plight of the European Jews, and worked to allow immigration of survivors of the Nazi Holocaust.

I can just see a little of the Donnelly store sign in the distance.

Tom - F.W. Donnelly eventually moved to Lawrence on Route 1 and Texas Ave. in the same building with Hamilton Jewelers. I worked at Donnelly's while in college at Trenton State at Christmas time and for their sales in the summer. Some great memories of downtown Trenton in 1960 - 1964.
