1936: A TRENTON SATURDAY NIGHT DURING THE GREAT DEPRESION

I tried doing this graphic in color, but I exceeded the size limit allowed and had to convert it to gray scale mode. It is an interesting representation of what the Trenton area had to offer those who were affluent enough to end their work week with a rousing venture into the very lively Trenton area of 1936. Unfortunately, the size constraints makes reading the details a bit daunting; but if my 80 year old eyes can see some of the ads, how about yours?

HI TOM....1936, WHAT A YEAR. I WAS SELECTED TO PLAY BASEBALL WITH THE SCHROTHS THAT YEAR BY JAKE MILLER AND WAS HOPING TO TRAVEL FAR IN THE AMERICAN LEGION TOURNAMENT. THE DEPRESSION HAD MOST PEOPLE IN A BAD MOOD WHILE I WAS HAPPY AND LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREAT YEAR. I WILL SAY THE ADS ABOVE WERE ATTRACTIVE AND MOST THINGS WERE VERY REASONABLE. BEST REGARDS IN YOUR OLD AGE.

Are you kidding. The only thing these 80 year old eyes can read is the ad for the park theater one of of my favorite hang outs when I lived in the burg. The only movie house in the USA that when you walked in the screen was behind you.During the movies My uncle Tommy used to send me across
the street to Tony Go's for the best hot dogs in the U.S.A.
great memories.

I can't believe you and I and our HHS 51 classmates are in our 80's !!! It seems like only yesterday. I am beginning my 8th year of singing at the Kuser Park gazebo. When I told my Kansas army buddy, he asked me how I still have a singing voice at my age. I told him because I have been using my voice for 75 of those 80 years. You can probably say the same thing.

Great to hear from you and Ralph as uaual. Remember: Old friends are the best friends.
