1936: NORTH BROAD APPROACHING STATE STREET

An interesting view of the town as it looked 77 years ago. Not the very familiar Ballentine "Three Ring" logo on the clock sign at State and Broad. It reposed there for many years. North Broad Street is all decked out in Christmas garlant

HI TOM...THERE AGAIN IS 1936, A YEAR THAT MADE ME BELIEVE I WAS PRETTY GOOD IN PLAYING BASEBALL. I WAS SELECTED TO PLAY WITH THE TRENTON SCHROTHS BY JAKE MILLER AND KNEW I WAS GOING TO GET SOME NEW EQUIPMENT FROM MAYHAM & SILVERS. UP TO THAT TIME I WAS PLAYING WITH A TORN GLOVE, TAPED BALLS AND BROKEN BATS. IT WAS A MAJOR ACCOMOISHMENT ON MY PART. BEST REGARDS.

My June 9th Trenton Times column deals with memories of friction tape wrapped around our baseball that long ago lost its horsehide cover. Not many of us left today who remember friction tape being used to get some more miles out of a baseball, Ralph!

Tom and Ralph, what would we have done without the tape? I did get some balls when I chased balls for Fred Scully at Wetzel Field. Always had to hide one to take home for the neighborhood kids. Got some of the pink balls from the State Prison also. Played LEDGE ball, off Case Pork Roll window ledge.

Hey Ron:

This poor "Pork Roll" Starved ex Trentonian, must rely on the largess of my son to bring me down my Pork Roll, and Loefflers balony when he visits.
For a while we were able to get Case's Pork roll at of all places, the "Dollar Tree". One Super Market Chain Carries Taylor's, and expects $10.49 per pound! That's right $10.49 per pound. And they call it "Baloney in a bag".

I think they are trying to get even for the Civil War!
