1949: HERE WE ARE IN FRONT OF F.W. DONNELLY'S STORE
Our auto historian Ray Paskiewicz will like this closeup photo of W. State Street with all those beautiful 1940 era vehicles parked and passing through downtown Trenton during the years when Trenton had a very active downtown community.

Hi Tom, You know, we can never go back in time, but history is going to look fondly at this period of time. The cities were vibrant, and downtown was filled with shoppers. When public transportation was plentiful, and ran a timely schedule. When small business flourished, and there was a selection of unique and individual department stores, offering a huge variety of goods. Downtown restaurants, and movie theaters, with big screens and ornate decor were everywhere. The streets were clean, and safe to walk at all hours of the day and night. Perhaps we should not be so sentimental about the past, but it's awful hard to leave it behind, especially when the memories are so vivid and these wonderful photographs document just how we remember it. Just like the title of a popular song, from a few years ago, It's so Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday. rayfromvillapark
YOU'RE SO RIGHT RAY, DOWNTOWN TRENTON WAS REALLY A TREAT FOR WE KIDS IN THE BURG. LATER ON WHEN I WAS WITH THE POST OFFICE I WAS ALWAYS HAPPY TO WORK AMONG ALL THE PEOPLE AND STORES IN THE CITY.

A very large "Amen," Ray. Memories are made of this.
