1936: NORTH BROAD AT STATE STREET

Note the very familar CAPITOL theater sign gleaming in the 1936 sunlight. I have to agree wholeheartedly with our auto expert Ray Paskiewicz; these autos in their original environment are absolutely beautiful

HI TOM...IT SEEMS THEY COULD'NT MAKE UP THEIR MIND WHERE THE CARS WOULD PLACE THEIR SPARE TIRES. SOME CARS HADTHEM IN THE BACK, OTHERS HAD THEM ON THE SIDE AND OTHERS IN THE TRUNK. YOU CAN SEE THE VAST CHANGE IN OUR CARS FROM THESE PHOTOS. 1936 WAS A GREAT YEAR FOR ME, THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES.

Hi Tom, Another great photograph of State & Broad. You are right about the beauty of the automobile, in this time period. Imagine, if you can, these photos devoid of any vehicles, both cars and trucks. Many times, the auto helps date the picture. The automobile is part of the American experience. It is a part of our lives. It is tied to the memories we have of growing up, and especially the memories of a boy and his Dad. The trips in the family car. Fantasizing, as a boy, of driving my own car to unknown adventures. Back in my day, the problems of overcrowded roads, and the environment, plus highly technical advancements, which make it nearly impossible to make any repairs to cars, were an unknown factor. To look back, via these wonderful photographs, at familiar locations, and see those old cars, is a real treat for me. rayfromvillapark
