As indicated in the preceding photo of the Hotel Hildebrecht, this area of Trenton has changed drastically from 1950 when this photo was taken. Flagg Brothers, Shellenberger's Candy and Father and Son are no longer with us. Back in 1950, "Made in America" was on every shoe sold by the above mentioned shoe stores. I could never afford Flagg and Father and Son, opting for Thom McAnn.

HI TOM....HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND THE FAMILY. THAT PART OF WEST STATE STREET AT WILLOW WAS MY ROUTE FOR 3 YEARS IN THE 50'S. I HAD COFFEY AT THE DRUG STORE EACH MORNING. AT THAT TIME THEY GOT 3 MAIL DELIVERIES A DAY SO I GOT TO KNOW THE AREA PRETTY GOOD. THE WINTERS WERE HARD WITH ICEY STEPS AT EACH STOP ON W. STATE ACROSS FROM THE STATE HOUSE AND THE MANY DOCTORS GETTING DRUG SAMPLES WERE A PAIN. WE LEFT THE POST OFFICE IN 1955 WHEN MY BROTHER LOU AND I BUILT THE HAMILTON BOWLING LANES ON ROUTE 33. BEST REGARDS.
Great photo Tom. I got shoes for many years at Father and Sons because they had a style I liked. On my visits back to Ternton I would always get a pair there when needed until the store was no longer there. It was a big disappointment.
Boob in Maine
Is this considered East Sate now? Because the bldg with the rectangular window is now called New York Gold Express at 13 E State St and the building to the left of that still exists as well.
THANKS FOR THAT EAGLE EYE, ANONYMOUS Of course it is a photo taken from the corner of State and Broad (E.State and W. State). I should have re-phrased the title. Check out my current home page and you will see a more detailed photo. Thanks for visiting!
