1951: PROSPECT STREET AT THE RESERVOIR

Here is another segmented view of the intersection with the John McShain building shown on the right. The clarity of these R.C. Maxwell photos is absolutely incredible.

Hi Tom, You are right, the clarity is unbelievable. The 1949 Mercury Club Coupe in the foreground, became an immediate icon, when James Dean, drove this same car, in the movie, Rebel Without a Cause. It had a shaved hood and trunk, and lowered rear end. All of the young guys longed for one of these. In my case, I chose to customize a 1955 Chevrolet, and that model became an icon, too, however, not because I drove it on the streets of Trenton, NJ. LOL rayfromvillapark

Clarity is RIGHT! does anyone rememer driving by the Reservoir, and seeing a guy on top with a rope around his waist so the guy with the mover would go rolling down the steep incline.

WELL THERE IT IS FOR ALL TO SEE.
GREAT MEMORY OF WHAT REAL WORKERS DID FOR A LIVING AND WERE HAPPY TO HAVE THE JOB.

Notice that the guy with the mower is standing upright and the mower is at a very steep angle. There had to be a back or arm ache after that job was finished. Mike, I do remember seeing the guy with the rope helping to guide the guy with the mower. I made almost daily trips to the old Ludecke Electric Motor repair shop back in the early 1950's. By the way, somewhere in these thousands of pages, are original photos of the construction of the reservoir. I havn't looked but it is possible if you use the SEARCH" feature under the home page and type in reservoir, you may come up with the picture or pictures.
