1937: PENNINGTON AND PRINCETON AVENUES

Another beautiful photo from the Duke University R.C. Maxwell collection of photographs. These photos were obviously taken by an accomplished photographer with a working knowledge of those "F" stops which so confused me when I owned a Kodak reflex camera during my army years.

Hi Tom, I love this picture, because of the many cars we can see. Looking North on Warren St, the cars parked on the right, closest to the camera, are a 1941 Dodge Luxury Liner Coupe, with Fluid Drive. You can make out the word, Luxury on the rear bumper, and Fluid Drive above the 1941 NJ license tag. 1941 NJ tags were Cream letters & numbers, with a Black background. The car ahead, is a 1941 Ford Coupe. I can't see enough of the third car, but it appears to be a 1931 model. I'm going by the shape, and single bar bumper. The neat car driving up the street, is a 1935 Ford Deluxe. from the great state of Pennsylvania (tag) Right side tail lamp shows it to be a DeLuxe. Car ahead is a 1939 Chevrolet.
Cars parked to the left are a 1937 Ford standard flatback 2 door. One windshield wiper shows it to be a standard, with more than likely the small 60 HP V8. Second, is a 1938 Plymouth sedan, and the truck is a 1 ton (if not larger) Dodge Panel truck. Can't see the grille to determine the year, but the humped roof tells us it is a Dodge. The cast wheels tell us the weight. The car parked on the corner, is a 1941 Chevrolet Special DeLuxe. The semi at the traffic light, is either a Brockway or an Autocar ( shape of the cab) and a guess on my part. Not that anybody is that interested in the identity of all of these great automobiles, but I love the picture and had to make a comment. Best regards, rayfromvillapark
