1897 and 1899: THE HOWARD AUTOMOBILE COMPANY

Little did I know, and I dare say, little did any local automotive historians realize that Hamilton Township was manufacturing "horseless carriages" back in the 19th century. Most folks know that the Mercer Automobile Company got its start as an offshoot of the Walter Automobile Company back in the first decade of the 20th century. The Mercer has cast a huge shadow over auto building in the Trenton area. Marques such as the Howard auto and the Sharp Arrow have gotten very little publicity.
