1941: EAST STATE STREET AT THE RR CROSSING

Another fine view of the downtown area of Trenton as it appeared during the years before Trenton went through the huge transformation of riots and destruction in the 1960's and the influx of those glass encrusted skyscrapers we see today. The two autos in the photo have license plates that are not too far apart numerically. This observation is based on the fact that the "L" prefix on Jersey plates in those days was reserved for Mercer County, hence the relatively closeness of the numbers.

HI TOM...I ATE BREAKFAST IN THAT DINER YOU SEE NEXT TO THE MOOSE HOME WHILE I WORKED AT THE POST OFFICE FOR 12 YEARS. FOR 2 YEARS I WORKED NIGHTS EMPTYING PARCEL POST SACKS AND HAD MUCH TROUBLE SLEEPING DURING THE DAY. REGARDS

And that would be the Trenton City Hall in the background. My Dad would tell of horrible wrestling matches at "The Moose" which was probably his was of getting out for a night "with the boys", Mom would cringe during his narratives that often included "hidden stove lids" and other devices.
