1942: DE COU VILLAGE: IN THE BEGINNING

I received a note from "Denis and Pat" requesting information on the DeCou area of Hamilton. I have a number of projects on the runway, including material on the DeCou School and the DeCou Volunteer Fire Co They will be posted as time permits. Denis or Pat are also interested on contacting fellow alumni from the Hamilton High class of 1957.

I grew up on Brafmen Drive in this area. The Mansion has always been a mystery to me. (Is that another Abbot House?) I was good friends the Clark family who lived there in the Seventies, and visited the house many times. I love history so much that at age 50 I still have dreams about the inside of that house to this very day.

About 1978 Sam Clark told me there was a tunnel in the basement that lead to the Delaware, it was part of the underground railroad. It was behind a wine cellar and collapsed ages ago. Over the years I heard the Bonapart mansion in Bordentown had a similar tunnel. Don't know if any of this is true or just old stories.

White Hill Mansion in Fieldboro has tunnels to the river too. Washington launched part of the Battle of Trenton from there.
