1891: THE OLD MERCER COUNTY COURT HOUSE

Absolutely lovely! A Lawn, beautiful trees, and a nice view from "Trenton Illustrated;" a pictorial booklet that has exquisite engravings as in the above example.

Tom, is the photo/engraving from 1891 or is that the date when the building was erected? I see the electrical lines in the picture and wonder when Trenton received electrical distribution.

What is the building being used for now? I am so out of touch with that area.

THE PHOTO IS FROM 1891. IT WAS BUILT JUST AFTER MERCER COUNTY WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1838. IT WAS REPLACED BY THE PRESENT BUILDING IN 1902. THE PRESENT BUILDING IS GOING TO BE REPLACED AND IN FACT THE NEW COURT HOUSE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION AS THIS IS BEING WRITTEN.

PS: ELECTRICITY CAME TO TRENTON IN THE 1880'S

Tom - Now I recognize the building. The surrounding area has changed greatly with the trees, etc. Probably why I didn't see this. Thanks.
