Tom: It was 72 years ago this month, that I entered the hallowed halls of the Skelton School as a kindergartner. Lined up on the sidewalk under the careful eye of Principal Myrtle Hummer who carried a riding crop under her arm, we were welcomed into a life of learning. Holding my hand was Tony Ponticello, who has been my closest friend ever since. He left Trenton in the 1950's settleing in Las Vegas where he became a very succesful Real Estate Broker Developer. Our Teacher was Helen Kelly who lived down Centre St. next to the Centre Threatre. She was the aunt of Harold Fink a prominent Hamilton Attorney. The following year we went to the newly built Parker School in the 300 block of Union St. Skelton School did in fact become the Boys Club of Trenton. Heading up the Boys Club was Fred Schluter, father of former State Sen. Bill Schluter. The Director of the club was Mr. SK Xander.

Fred Schluter who I mentioned above, was the President of Thermoid rubber company on Whitehead road near the main line of the Pennsylvania Rail Road. Does anyone remember Thermoid's Slogan? "Rely on your brakes, instead of your horn"

Was this building turned into a Boy's Club that survived into the 1950s or so?
