1917: FRANK YOUNG: AN OLDENHURST PIONEER

We called it "Youngies" when I was a boy. In the 1940's Frank Young had progressed to the point where he had a lively ice house going at the Southeast corner of Liberty Street and South Olden Avenue. Over the years, I have had an intense interest in researching the Oldenhurst and Liberty Gardens area of Hamilton, all of which were in my immediate neighborhood. I was born in the house at 100 Beal Street on the corner of Sylvan Avenue back in 1933. The area was well established even that far back in time. Diagonally across the street from our house was Kalapis' corner store. Across the street, Harry Baum had a viable produce business.
