The graphic above appears in both the "BUSINESSES-TRENTON" and "NOSTALGIA" folders in the Hamilton Library Local History database. To all my younger visitors, the graphic above is a scan of two blotters. Way back when we were in grammar school. we used what was known as a "straight pen." Said pen was dipped into another extinct desk accessory known as an "ink well." The straight pen was a delight to those of us who had good penmanship. Indeed, it was there that I developed my interest in Calligraphy. Advertising blotters were inexpensive and very effective advertising gimmicks, an. They were seen in almost every home, office ans school room. The blue rectangle in the middle segment of the graphic is the absorbant side of the blotter which absorbed the very wet ink from the page. Ahh, the memories!

Sure remember those inkwells. My cousin, Tommy Carr, sat behind me in class and delighted in dunking my pigtails into it just a little bit but not enough for the teacher to see.
