1941: WAKE ISLAND LOST TO JAPANESE INVADERS

A sad Christmas present for America, but mostly for those brave U.S. Marines on Wake Island as they were pathetically outnumbered by the superior Japanese forces. History shows that the little garrison of troops fought valiantly and made the enemy pay dearly for their ultimate victory. Let's not forget those incredibly brave marines as we recall the disastrous defeat at Wake Island 68 years ago.
THIS COMMENT FROM REGULAR VISITOR "JOE Z" (JOE ZUBA).

Tom: There was a good WWII movie called Wake Island. It starred William Bendix and pretty accurate according to history. It's on once in awhile on Turner Movie Classics or I guess you can rent it. Love your posts on WWII and the civilian life back home at the time.

THANKS JOE; ALONG WITH "SANDS OF IWO JIMA," FLYING TIGERS," AND OTHER WWII MOVIES, "WAKE ISLAND" WITH BRIAN DUNLEAVY, WILLIAM BENDIX AND ROBERT PRESTON IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE WWII MOVIES.

CHECK OUT THE LINK (AMONG THE LINKS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THIS PAGE) TO "JOEY Z'S SPEAKEASY." JOE ZUBA HAS WRITTEN A BOOK AND CAN BE COUNTED ON TO PROVIDE INT
ERESTING POSTS ON HIS BLOG.

There were some great war movies made in those days, Guadalcanal Diary with William Bendix, Air Force and Pride of the Marines with John Garfield. Cary Grant in Destination Toyko and Spencer Tracy in 30 Seconds Over Toyko.

Thank you so very much for the kind words for my site and book. If we don't write before Christmas, May you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and a Great New Year. Thanks again.
