It was at 132 East Hanover Street in downtown Trenton and was known as the "Soldiers' Club." Speaking as a 3 year veteran of the U.S. Army, I can tell you that one of the more difficult aspects of being in the military is being away from home at Christmas. I spent 3 full Christmases in the military, and I can only imagine how it was for the "Greatest Generation," whose release dates were frozen for the duration. One wonders how many of those soldiers shown in the photo above never made it home from the horror that was World War II.THIS FROM RALPH LUCARELLA:
Hi Tom: I delivered mail to Mrs. Roebling at her home on 245 W. State St. for 3 years. She was a wonderful person and giving parties like the one you've shown was one of many affairs she sponsored. Her chauffeur for many years was a Chambersburg friend of mine, Frank Castaldo. On that same block was Mrs. Mary Roebling, also another Roebling who was a big factor in city affairs. Merry Xmas to all.
