All through my high school years I had heard about the Schroths and they were usually at the top of the charts when it came to local championships. For some reason, the name Schnorbus comes to mind as one of the greats in the annals of Schroth history. Can anyone fill me in. Was it Ron Schnorbus back in the late 40's, early 50's? The memory is dim on this subject.

Hi Tom: You have hit on something I feel I know something about. I know all the players above very well. I was selected to play for the Schroths in 1936, My younger brother Chuck played with them in 1948 when they won the American Legion World Series at Indianapolis. I played during the depression when most kids played with taped balls and broken bats. After making the team I was told to go to Mayham & Silvers store on Hanover St. to get what I needed. For the first time I got a brand new pair of spikes, a glove and a new bat. The above team, my team and the early Schroths teams were chosen from all the kids in the city. When my brother played in 1948, they were part of a league composed of various Legion posts. The winner of the league represented Trenton in the tournament. I'm not sure if Ron Shnorbus played with the schroths, although I remember Ron.
I might ad Tom, that the Legion complained about the Schroths winning so often. It was then that they suggested Trenton form a league like in the other cities. I felt in my youth that being selected was a major accomplishment.congymen
Wonderful, Ralph!
How great it is to have a first person commentary to the articles and photos I post! Especially from a guy who has "been there, done that!". This is what my blog is all about. If only there were more of us from "Wrinkle City" on the web, think of all the comments I would be getting from all over. Your input is very much appreciated, and will be even more appreciated as time goes on, and assuming this website survives. KEEP 'EM COMING!
TOM
