1938: Ca. 1938 E.H. Frenking Nursery

Candy Jens is one of the very earliest visitors to my website. I'm sure she will be interested in this 1930's ad from the local press. As I recall, Frenking's was in the area of the Hamilton Municipal Building, and I seem to place it at or near the current Health Dept. building. I know Candy or someone else will set me straight.

Tom, the Health Department building was Clark Florist - one of your photos of the Municipal Building shows the shop and greenhouses (later taken down) behind it . Frenking's shop at 1842 Nottingham Way was directly across from Chewalla Drive, and had a "show" greenhouse running parallel to Nottingham. The back of the property bordered the Fair Grounds dirt track, and many people watched the races from the field (the track was later banked, so visibility wasn't very good)

In the mid-50s a new shop was built on Nottingham, next to the Exxon on the Klockner Rd. corner. I understand the 30-acre lot is to be another shopping mall.
