OLD HEIDELBERG:THE WAY IT WAS
This great photo of the Heidelberg as it looked during my years of going to many Sunday dinners at that wonderful old German restaurant. Thanks to regular visitor Gary Szabo for an exquisite and well balanced photo. As Dean Martin sang, "Memories are Made of This;" they sure are.

Thank You for this pic!!!!
Fantastic:)
We only went maybe once to the Old Heidelberg.
Did you ever go to the Del Rio? I believe it was across the street from Greenwood Cemetery. Our family spent many a Sunday afternoon there. I do recall the smell of the old smoky wood fired grill.

I SURE DID GO TO DEL RIO, "WG Schultz. In fact Carl DeAngelo reserved that granite topped round table for me and my teen-age buddies. He called us "The Knights of the Round Table." We used to meet there nearly every night after we dropped our dates off. DelRio started as a walk-up food stand back in the 30's.

My Dad and us never called it "Del Rio". It was called "Carl's".
IIRC, it was great tasting food in a real old time classic setting. Is the building still there or is it long-gone?

Yes Bill, the building is still there but it is now a sports bar. I haven't been in there since the changeover about 10 or so years ago.

I used to go the Heidelberg in The 80's. The Food was always so good.
Remember the Olde Heidelberg well. Been there many times. Great old bar. Shame it burned down. Del Rio's was also a classic. We used to go there on dates nand after Black Band practice on Saturdays.

the Olde Heidelberg had the best liver and onions!! Loved going there many times with my Grandmother as it was a favorite of hers too. I was shocked to learn that it burned down when I had plans to eat there on a visit I had planned to NJ last year.

Last I had heard an ex-classmate of mine had been running the place...but that was over 10 years ago. Are they planning to rebuild??
I use to go to Del Rio's too...great burned hotdogs!! :)
