1945: EASTERN AIRCRAFT AND GRUMMAN AVENGERS

In my very lucid memory, I can still see those beautiful navy "Avengers" buzzing over my Hamilton home back during the WWII years. Some were flying so low, the pilot could be clearly seen in the plane's cabin, or as we called it, the "greenhouse." A number of years ago, I attended a "fly in" at Mercer Airport. As one of those restored TBM's roared to life, I recalled a very familar sound.

My grandfather (Red Roman) worked there. There is a book they gave all the plant workers that documents the change over from Fisher Guide to Eastern. I had a copy but it somehow got lost. Thanks for the picture Tom

Thanks for the comment on your grandfather. The photo is from that history. It is in my collection. The article was from a newspaper account. The two graphics were combined.

Hi Tom,
I came across your website an hour ago and I'm totally engrossed in the photos, the old Trenton Times articles....and now I've reached the Eastern Aircraft article and read your memoir. My father started @ GM when it was Eastern Aircraft, and remained there until 1970 when he retired as a General Forman. His name was Art Holgate, and he was a very good man. I'm 58 now and my Dad has been gone since 1978. Thank you so very much for this gift!
