1912: LAKESIDE: IT HAS CHANGED NAMES OVER THE YEARS

KIRBY'S MILL, LOWRIE'S MILL, HUTCHINSON'S POND, LAKESIDE, AND GROPP'S LAKE. OVER THE YEARS THAT HISTORIC OLD LAKE HAS BEEN THE GATHERING PLACE FOR MANY MERCER COUNTY RESIDENTS. WITH ALL THE OPEN SPACE AND PUBLIC PARK CONSTRUCTION DONE LOCALLY OVER THE PAST 35 YEARS, I OFTEN WONDERED WHY THE TOWNSHIP FATHERS GAVE UP ON BRINGING THIS NATURAL RESOURCE INTO THE PARK DOMAIN. IT WAS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR SUMMER AND WINTER PLAYGROUNDS DURING THE 30'S AND 40'S, AS CAN BE SEEN BY THE GRAPHIC ABOVE.

MANY THANKS TO MY DEAR FRIEND, HAROLD YAEDE FOR THE BEAUTIFUL PHOTO OF THE LAKESIDE HIGH DIVING BOARD.
