He was one of the more prominent local politicians and merchants in the Hamilton/Mercer area back in the 19th and early 20th century. His name is still prominent when one mentions Hutchinsons Mills. The E.C. Hutchinson "Rolling Mill" was located in the general area of today's Coleman Supply Company on E. State Street and Klockner Road in Hamilton, just before you cross the railroad tracks heading toward Sloane Road.
