The initials stood for "United Service Organization." During WWII, as it does today, the USO provided our military men with a touch of home. Dancing, donuts, and just old fashioned hospitality helped many a lonely GI to take his mind off of his homesickness and bring a bit of home to his life. Here's a view of the USO that was located on North Clinton Avenue during the second world war.
