1930's: "Lakeside"

NOTE: THIS GRAPHIC CAN NOT BE ENLARGED

Today it's known as Gropp's Lake. Back in the distant past it was known only as "Lakeside." There was a store on the corner of the property at South Broad St. and Lakeside Boulevard. There were bathhouses lined up all along the Lakeside Boulevard boundary of the lake. In earlier years, it was known as Lowrie's Mill, Kirby's Mill, and the lake was known as "Hutchinson's Pond." Many "old timers" have fond memories of lying on the beach and swimming at "Lakeside."
