1948: WHITE HORSE CIRCLE IN DEPTH

Here's a photo to warm the heart of us old timers. You are getting ready to round the White Horse Circle and head toward the city of Trenton. The awnings in the photo are on the windows at the White Horse Tavern. There's Tony's Tomato Pies, the White Horse Diner, a bake shop that I say is Emil's Bake Shop but I am not sure if it was there in 1948. I leave it to my more knowledgeable White Horse area residents to verify. And who could ever forget Anthony Rogers in that 68 year old photo?

Tom:

It appears my old friend and neighbor George Moses has stopped for a little libation at the White Horse Inn. George ran the dry cleaner next to us at 1310 So. Broad St.
Emil's bake shop was just over the Twp. line at Cedar lane as I recall. His Grandaughter(daughter) married one of my cousin's Children. The bakery was next to Joe Notte's Beauty shop.

Hi Tom, Anthony Rogers,I believe, opened a Buick dealership at this location, in the 1950s.Then, moved it to Bordentown. Can you confirm that? What was the business in 1948. I'm drawing a blank. Also, cannot, remember that diner. The ESSO gas station remained for many years on the opposite side of the street. The sign is visible to the left. Nice photo! rayfromvillapark

Tommy, sometimes after choir practice or rehersal, members of the choir would go for a tomato pie or maybe to Scottys for a cherry coke. Pretty popular hangout for the HHS 51 choir.Almost as popular as Pete's steak house
