1922: EAST STATE ST. AT CITY HALL

How clean and neat the city was back in the day. This view of a group of store fronts along South Broad Street across from the Trenton City Hall is a very good example. I am trying to identify the hotel in the photo.

Tom, this photo apppears to be miss-labeled. The hotel building and the thin building next to it are still present. They are across E. State from the existing City Hall at the corner of E. Canal St.
The current Trenton City hall was built in 1906.

Tom:
SJBill has a keen eye. Proof he is right, is the name "Tremont" on the parque of the hotel.
That was the name of Joe Sach's famous "Tremont Lounge" on the same spot. The brick building was Eddie's donuts when I was working at City Hall in the 60's. In addition to being mislabled, it is misdated (see conflicting dates superimposed on photo.

Hey guys, help me here. Below the R.C. Maxwell photo is what I believe are the the buildings that still exist across from Trenton City Hall. (The Tremont and another unknown edifice.) I need to know where I mis-labeled is so I can correct it. I placed it across from Trenton City Hall. Thanks for your input.

Tom - It is across from City Hall but it's East State Street. The Hotel has a name at the top of the building, Tremont House. I presume that's the name of the hotel. Later it became the Tremont Lounge.

Stupid is as stupid does! I can't begin to count the number of times I drove by City Hall on State Street!!! Sorry for the juxtaposition with Broad Street! I can only assume that I was posting too many Broad Street graphics. Sorry about that guys, I have made the correction. I didn't even realize I had written it as Broad Street! Many thanks to all for keeping me honest!

HI GANG...I WORKED AT THE POST OFFICE WHICH WAS ACROSS FROM THOSE STORES FROM 1940 THRU 1955 AND IT WAS ALWAYS THE TREMONT CAFE, MIKE BUDDY'S BAR AND JOE MILLER'S NEWSPAPER SHOP. WE SPENT MOST OF OUR LUCH TIME AT JOE MILLERS OR GEORGE DEGREE'S RESTAURANT DOWN THE STREET. THOSE WERE THE DAYS. BEST REGARDS.
