1943: HOLY CROSS GIRLS DISPLAY ALL AMERICAN PATRIOTISM DURING WWII

All of our ethnic churches have an incredibly interesting historical heritage. Above is a very interesting photo/article on the young ladies from Holy Cross Church working on their project of sending uplifting mail to their military Holy Cross parishioners during WWII. Patriotism was alive and well in the America of 1943.

1916: POLISH-AMERICANS: POLONIA IN TRENTON

I spent the first 2 decades of my life with my best friend to this day, Don Slabicki. We actually grew from boyhood to manhood together. I have very pleasant memories of Don and his wonderful family. Memories of summer Polish cookouts at Don's Sylvan Avenue home will remain forever etched in my memory, as will the countless Polish picnics we neighborhood kids enjoyed at nearby Plaag's Grove. The fascinating article above tells of the heritage of these wonderful Americans who have gone a long way to make their mark in Trenton area history.

Holy Cross Church - Cass and Adeline Street

This vintage engraving of the Holy Cross Church, and the preceding Immaculate Conception engraving was extracted (torn) from the original source. It was interleaved in one of my scrapbooks with no identifying source for the photo. This and the preceding Immaculate Conception engraving is believed to be from a paper back volume I recall seeing many years ago, "A Century of Catholicity" from the latter part of the 19th century. However, that is sheer speculation on my part.

1991: HOLY CROSS CHURCH ALTAR PHOTO

This exquisite photo is from the 1991 centennial celebration booklet. That historic church on Adeline Street in Trenton has a magnificent historical heritage.

1946: HOLY CROSS PARISH POLISH UNION

The venerable holy place we know of as Holy Cross Church on South Trenton's Adeline Street has served the area since 1891. The colored inset photo of the exquisitely beautiful interior of the church is from the sumptuous 1991 Centennial book published for the event. Many families of middle eastern ancestry, especially those from Poland.
