By any chance, can you repost the picture? I'd love to see it. My mom, and two uncles were members of this club. My mom went on to win the state championship in 1949 for her Guernsey, Hillcrest Dottie's Pauline. The 4H is such a great organization.

1902: PURITY MILK COMPANY - SCOTCH ROAD

I received a comment in the Kuser "STRAWBERRY HILL" post requesting info on the Purity Milk farm on the Ewing - Hopewell Twp. border. Here is one of the files I have in my database. 1934: NOEL GOEKE'S ADDITION TO THE HOPEWELL MOUNTAIN CHRISTIAN CHURCH

What a fascinating story! This little church, tucked away in the fabled Sourland Mountain area of Hopewell and not too far from the old Lindbergh homestead, has a fabulous historic heritage. To those of us who treasure stories of old time country life, it takes only a bit of imagination to envision a family making a trek through the woodlands on Sabbath to give praise to God. Perhaps a visitor can bring me up to speed on the current status of this church. There is a 1950 article detailing the 160th anniversary of that little-known Hopewell church.

1937: HOPEWELL'S ELMER EWING

Mr. Ewing is a man after my own heart! Who says one is "washed up" after reaching 70 years of age? Age is a state of mind. Mr. Ewing's observation that we gain wisdom as we age is so very true. Had I had that wisdom back in the early 1960's when I was warned about working for a "mom and pop" organization, I would not have signed on to a career that at the time was filled with "rosy" empty promises of a great future; promises which though not done maliciously, ended up with the principals of the company retiring and passing the business on to their less experienced and immature sons. Bottom line: The business went chapter 11 within months and I retired without even getting a Timex watch. However, the Good Lord closes one door and another opens. At the ripe old age of 75, I find myself gainfully employed, happily married, and ready for the next 25 years!

1946: Hopewellk's Calvary Baptist Church

How I love the intimacy of those country churches! Hopewell's involvement in the Baptist church dates well back into the 18th century,

1974: INEZ HOWELL GIVES MERCER THE HOWELL FARM

I became acquainted with Inez Howell way back in the 1940's when Don Slabicki and I worked for Fritz and Edna Kuser. (Inez is Edna Howe Kuser's sister). I recall the day when Don and I "rode shotgun" in the motorcade through the Pennington area during Inez's husband Charles' campaign for congress. Here she is shown handing over the papers to the Howell farm in Hopewell which has become the very popular Howell Living History Farm,

1933: DAVID L. BLACKWELL: HOPEWELL'S "GRAND OLD MAN"

The Blackwell family of Hopewell is among the more historic and prominent surnames in that beautiful village. This is a completely fascinating first person look at the life, times, and sentiments of 101 year old David Blackwell, whose family roots undoubtedly go back to the earliest colonial times.

1913: HOPEWELL FIRE CO. 95 YEARS AGO

This fascinating photo of the horse-drawn fire apparatus of the Hopewell Fire Company as it looked in 1913, before there were fire hydrants. The lack of fire hydrants in that area is still a problem, as witness the destruction just this past week of one of the Hopewell area's "McManions."

1944: Hopewell Grammar School Girls in a Dance Recital

These lovely ladies from way back in 1944 were preparing to wow the local gentry with their dancing skills. There's a Van Dyke in there, and I bet she's related to my amateur radio friend Harold Van Dyke, formerly of Hopewell.

1936: HOPEWELL HIGH SCHOOL ALMA MATER

My Niece Cindy has been a teacher at Hopewell Valley H.S. for many years. When I see her, I will ask if Cherry Magner's Alma Mater has stood the test of time. Or perhaps a Hopewell area visitor to this site can tell us.

1935: Hopewell New Jersey Grammar School Honor Roll

For those who are genealogically inclined, or perhaps relatives of the students listed above, this listing of 1930's students at then-very rural Hopewell, New Jersey this graphic will be of special interest.

1904: HOPEWELL BOBBIN FACTORY?

THIS DESTRUCTIVE FIRE IN HOPEWELL CONSUMED THE HOPEWELL SPOOL AND BOBBIN FACTORY. APPARENTLY ARSON WAS SUSPECTED. I HAD NEVER HEAR OF THAT PARTICULAR FACTORY. PERHAPS A HOPEWELL-PENNINGTON OLD TIME CAN ENLIGHTEN US.

1896: ST. MICHAEL'S ORPHANAGE HOPEWELL

Even though this graphic is incomplete due to the fact that the pages were seriously degraded and torn, the initial article is quite interesting. I have received numerous requests for information on St. Michael's, which is no longer in existance.

1913: HOPEWELL M.E. CHURCH

In 1913, the Trenton Times took over the old "True American" newspaper. The takeover was refreshing: more local interest stories, more photo graphs, and more Mercer County area coverage of Hopewell, Pennington, Hamilton, Ewing, etc. Above is an interesting article on Hopewell's Methodist Episcopal Church. Articles such as these are interesting from a genealogical point of view. There are many old line Hopewell area surnames in the listing of attendees to the "Harvest Home."

1913: HOPEWELL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
