1936: EIGHTY YEARS AGO TODAY

It's always interesting to look back "on this date in history." Here's a graphic I put together detailing community activities as they were reported way back in the early part of the 20th century. More to come.

1902: "Future Site of the new Groveville School!"

1913: Groveville School Picnic at Wesley Grove

The 1913 newspapers are severely foxed (tanned) and as a result this, and other 1913 extracts take on a gray hue. In order to remove the gray hue, thse exposure, brightness, and contrast controls all deteriorate the quality of the image. Bottom line: this is the best reproduction I can manage on articles and photos in this 1913 edition of the State Gazette.

1977: S.O.S. Groveville School:

The post on the left has already been published previously. In order to maintain continuity of the unsuccessful "S.O.S" Save Our Schools campaign, I have added an updated article which was subsequently published in the Mercer Messenger.

1977: The Death of a Classic - Groveville School

It was a sad time in Hamilton's history when it was decided to "nuke" some of Hamilton's pioneer schools. I have always worried about the demise of the neighborhood school. Lalor, Klockner and Kuser are historic education classics, and I hope I am not around when the wrecker's ball falls on them.

1924: Scarlet Fever Closes Groveville and Yardville Schools

I never had Scarlet Fever, but all of my older brothers and my sister did become victims of the disease we seldom hear about in our current societal environment. I do remember that homes with victims of the disease had a "QUARANTINED" sign on the front door. The letter above was sent by Dr. Zandt, who was apparently the Hamilton Township School physician.

2007: GROVEVILLE SCHOOL

THIS BREATH TAKING VIEW OF THE GROVEVILLE SCHOOL IS A WORK OF ART. OUR EARLIER GENERATIONS OF HAMILTONIANS HAD EXCELLENT TASTE. THEIR CHOICE OF ARCHITECTURE WAS SPLENDID.
