1915: PATRIOTS AT TRENTON'S ESSEX RUBBER COMPANY

THE ARTICLE INCLUDED WITH THIS POST TELLS OF THE PATRIOTIC
EMPLOYEES OF THE ESSEX RUBBER COMPANY AS THEY PRESENTED A HUGE AMERICAN FLAG FOR DISPLAY IN FRONT OF THE FACTORY. THE PHOTO BELOW COMES WITH MANY THANKS FROM MS. CLAIRE WINKLER, WHOSE FAMILY IS INTER-RELATED WITH THE STEINERT AND VERY HISTORIC YARDVILLE BECK FAMILY. THANK YOU CLAIRE, THE PHOTO IS FLIED IN THE LOCAL HISTORY COLLECTION IN THE "BUSINESSES AND FACTORIES, TRENTON."

2007: A NOTE FROM TOM

THERE ARE QUITE A NUMBER OF PAGES BEING POSTED ON MY SITE WHICH ARE SO LARGE THAT THEY HAVE TO BE POSTED IN A SIZE WHICH RESULTS IN A RESOLUTION THAT RENDERS THE TEXT ILLEGIBLE.
I HAVE FOUND A FREEWARE (100% FREE) DOWNLOAD WHICH WILL DO A PRETTY NICE JOB OF ZOOMING IN SO THE TEXT CAN BE READ.
IF YOU DECIDE TO DOWNLOAD IT. GO TO THE MENU AT THE TOP OF THE SCREEN AND CHOOSE "ZOOM." IT WORKS WELL FOR ME AND I HOPE IT WILL BE AN ASSET FOR THOSE WHO NEED READABLE TEXT. IF NOT, IT IS EASY TO REMOVE FROM YOUR SYSTEM.

HOORAY FOR THE NEA! (IN 1914,)

"WE SHOULD HAVE BUT THE STRONGEST CONDEMNATION FOR THE WEALTHY, CLUB-GOING WOMAN WHO HAS NOT TIME TO TEACH HER CHILD THE FUNDAMENTAL TRUTHS OF LIFE AND WOULD THROW THE RESPONSIBILITY UPON A TEACHER OR A FOOTBALL COACH.."
EVEN BACK IN 1914 THERE WAS A CONTROVERSY SURROUNDING THE TEACHIHING OF SEX EDUCATION IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEMS.
NO MATTER HOW MUCH THINGS CHANGE, MANY THINGS STAY THE SAME.

1931: RUTH DONNELLY, MOVIE STAR

WHEN I WAS A BOY, I OFTEN HEARD THE NAMES OF BOTH RUTH DONNELLY, AND CHARLOTTE GREENWOOD. BOTH WERE ACCOMPLISHED MOVIE STARS WHO HAILED FROM THE CAPITOL CITY OF TRENTON.

1912: EWING TOWNSHIP'S "GREEN CURVE"

"GREEN CURVE" IS ON PENNINGTON ROAD RIGHT IN THE AREA OF THE OLD EWING MUNICIPAL COMPLEX IN THE AREA OF THE COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY. UNFORTUNATELY, THE OFFSET PRINTING REPRODUCTION BACK IN 1912 PRODUCED A VERY INFERIOR PHOTO, LACKING IN DETAIL VERY DARK. THIS IS THE BEST I COULD DO TO ENHANCE AN INCREDIBLY DARK, WASHED OUT PHOTO. OH YES, THE AD SAYS, "LOW TAXES."
"EMILY," IF YOU ARE READING THIS. I TRIED TO RESPOND WITH AN APOLOGY FOR NOT RECOGNIZING YOU. BUT THEY BOTH CAME BACK
("NO REPLY - NO COMMENTS")
ANYWAY, THANKS FOR THE CORRECTION ON MY LOCATING GREEN CURVE. AS YOU INDICATED, IT WAS BY THE OLD MUNICIPAL COMPLEX BEGINNING AT GREEN LANE NEAR CAROLINA AVENUE.

1897: INDUSTRIAL TRENTON

THIS IS PAGE ONE OF AN INCREDIBLY INTERESTING MULTI PAGE FEATURE ON TRENTON AS IT WAS IN 1897, JUST ON THE THRESHOLD OF THE 20TH CENTURY. THE ENGRAVINGS ARE ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL, AND IF YOU ARE A COMPUTER GRAPHICS PERSON, YOU CAN CUT AND PAST THEM AND ENLARGE THEM. I HAVE SCANNED THEM IN AT A HIGHER THAN NORMAL DOTS PER INCH,

1875: THIS WAS GROVEVILLE

THOSE VIEWERS WHO RESIDE IN GROVEVILLE WILL FIND THIS MAP TO BE OF INTEREST

1875: TO MY MANY FRIENDS IN YARDVILLE

ANY VIEWERS WHO LIVE IN YARDVILLE WILL FIND THIS AN INTERESTING MAP. IT WILL GIVE YOU A GOOD IDEA OF THE VILLAGE AS IT LOOKED BACK IN 1875. IF YOU ARE A RESIDENT, CHANCES ARE YOU CAN PINPOINT YOUR CURRENT HOME.

1933: INDUSTRIAL TRENTON

WHOA! "CHIMNEYS BELCHING SMOKE? HEY, YOU FOLKS ARE POLLUTING! BACK IN 1933 THE "BELCHING" CHIMNEYS OF TRENTON'S COUNTLESS INDUSTRIAL FACTORIES WERE LENDING A GRAY HUE TO THE BLUE ATMOSPHERE, AND OUR CITIZENS WERE BESIDE THEMSELVES WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT AMERICA WAS SLOWLY RECOVERING FROM THE GREAT DEPRESSION.
==========================================
THIS FROM HISTORIAN TOM REID WITH A VERY FASCINATING INSIGHT TO THE PHOTO ABOVE. THANK VERY MUCH, TOM!

Re:CHIMNEYS BELCHING SMOKE.
Pic is of area between N. Clinton Ave and the D&R Canal, and the Southard St and N. Olden Ave Bridges. These bridges are not shown and were vertical draw bridges. In 1943 the super structures was removed for WW ll scrape metal drive. These buildings shown were mostly potteries. A few years after pic taken, part of that canal was our "swimming hole" by sunken tug boats known as "tuggies". This area was just outside our Goosetown neighborhood.Any one wants to talk of that time and area, contact me at:

1912: WHITE CITY DEBAUCHERY

IN THE FALL I WILL BE DOING A KUSER MANSION PROGRAM ON WHITE CITY, "THE CONEY ISLAND OF NEW JERSEY." EVEN THOUGH WHITE CITY WAS A GLAMOROUS AMUSEMENT PARK, THROUGHOUT ITS EXISTANCE IT WAS CONSTANTLY INVOLVED VIOLATIONS OF THE "BLUE LAWS," WHICH MANDATED CLOSING ON SUNDAYS. THERE WERE ALSO MANY INCIDENTS SUCH AS THE GRAPHIC ABOVE, WHERE LADIES WITH QUESTIONABLE MORALS HELD FORTH.

1912: MERCER TO EXPAND THEIR FACTORY

IS THIS IN SCRAP BOOK, TIM KUSER? 1912 WAS THE HEYDAY OF THE MERCER AUTO COMPANY. THE SPEEDY MERCER RACERS WERE WINNING RACES ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, AND THE MARQUE WAS BECOMING KNOWN AROUND THE WORLD.

1912:GREEN'S CURVE, PENNINGTON ROAD EWING

THIS IS A FASCINATING LOOK AT THE DEVELOPMENT OF PENNINGTON AVENUE IN EWING TOWNSHIP AND THE SURROUNDING AREA. THE DAILY TRUE AMERICAN FILLED UP 4 FULL PAGES DETAILING THE AREA REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENTS. THIS GRAPHIC IS ONE OF THE PAGES. PROMINENT AMONG THE ADS ARE THOSE OF BILL HOWE, FATHER OF EDNA HOWE KUSER OF KUSER FARM. BACK DURING THE EARLY CENTURY, WILLIAM HOWE PLANTED TREES ALL ALONG PENNINGTON ROAD FROM PENNINGTON TO EWING TOWNSHIP.

1952: HHS '52; FIFTY FIVE YEARS AND COUNTING

HEREWITH A SELECT FEW OF MY "NEXT DOOR NEIGHBORS" FROM THE CLASS OF 1952 AT HAMILTON HIGH. AS I PAGED THROUGH THE 1952 "RETROSPECT" YEARBOOK, I PONDERED ON EACH AND EVERY PICTURE, RECALLED AN INCIDENT OR TWO WHICH RELATED TO MY RELATIONSHIP WITH THAT PARTICULAR PERSON, AND ADDED HIM OR HER TO THIS VIGNETTE. I INCLUDED THE PHOTOS OF THE GIRLS I LOVED, THE GIRLS THAT WERE THE SUBJECT OF MY NUMEROUS TEEN AGE CRUSHES, THE GUYS I KNEW, FONDLY RECALLING THE GREAT TIMES WE HAD PLAING UNSUPERVISED GAMES OF BASEBALL AT PLAAG'S GROVE, USUALLY WITH A BASEBALL RE-WRAPPED WITH FRICTION TAPE, AND A BRICK OR A TIN CAN LID FOR BASES. I PAUSED AN EXTRA MINUTE OR TWO AND RECALLED THAT HANDOME NAVY OFFICER, HAROLD BILLS, TO WHOM THE CLASS DEDICATED THE 1952 YEARBOOK. I RECALL THE LOOK ON THE GIRLS' FACE WHENEVER HE ENTERED A CLASS ROOM DRESSED IN HIS NAVY OFFICER'S UNIFORM.

1919: TRENTON AREA AUTOMOBILE DEALERS

DID YOU KNOW THERE WAS SUCH A HUGE NUMBER OF AUTOMOBILES IN AMERICA?
DID YOU KNOW THERE WAS SUCH A HUGE NUMBER OF AUTOMOBILE DEALERS IN THE TRENTON-MERCER AREA?

1934: WILKES POST GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC

THIS IS A HUGE FILE WHICH HAS BEEN SCANNED INTO TWO SEPERATE GRAPHICS. THE CONTINUATION IS FOUND IN THE NEXT POST ON THIS SITE.

1934: MAPLE SHADE CLASS OF 1934

One of the more fascinating facets of this history project is unearthing is reading about many of the relatives of those in the photos which are being posted. On a personal basis, I have found photos of my cousins, my uncle, and even the wedding announcement of my mother and father. I would ask that you ignore the "White Horse School" entry at the top of the graphic.....a senior moment.

WHITE HORSE VOLUNTEER FIRE CO.

OVER THE YEARS I HAVE WRITTEN A NUMBER OF "THE WAY WE WERE" COLUMNS WHICH HIGHLIGHTED OUR LOCAL HEROES WHO WE ALL KNOW AS VOLUNTEER FIREMEN (AND WOMEN). THIS INTERESTING COLUMN TELLS OF A FUND RAISING CARNIVAL BEING HELD BY THE WHITE HORSE VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY, FOUNDED IN 1914.

HAMILTON'S VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANYS

I HAVE THE GREATEST RESPECT FOR THE LOCAL VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS THAT SERVE AND PROTECT OUR MUNICIPAL NEIGHBORHOODS. A YEAR OR SO AGO, A LIMB FROM THE SYCAMORE TREE ON MY FRONT LAWN RUBBED AGAINST THE ELECTRIC MAINS RUNNING TO MY HOUSE, AND LESS THAN FOUR FEET FROM MY ROOF. MY FRONT LAWN LIT UP LIKE THE MACY'S JUU 4TH FIREWORKS DISPLAY, SHOWERING HOT EMBERS ON MY ASPHALT ROOF. TALK ABOUT A TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE! QUICKER THAN YOU CAN SAY "ATLANTIC AVENUE," THE FIREMEN FROM HAMILTON AND ENTERPRISE WERE IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE, AND EVEN THOUGH IT TOOK A LONG TIME TO CONTAIN THE RUNAWAY ELECTRICAL SHOWER, IT WAS COMFORTING TO KNOW THAT THE SHARP EYES OF THE FIREMEN WERE WATCHING CLOSELY. BOTTOM LINE, PUBLIC SERVICE SHUT OFF THE ELECTRIC AND THE FIRE GUYS CAME BACK TWO TIMES TO MAKE SURE THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. ONE OF THE GUYS CAME BY AT 1:30 IN THE MORNING TO BE SURE THERE WAS NO OTHER PROBLEM WITH THE OFFENDING ELECTRIC WIRE.

1983: TOM GLOVER HISTORY OF COLONIAL VFD PART 1

THIS IS THE FIRE COMPANY OF MY YOUTH. AS I WROTE THIS COLUMN, I RECALLED THE NAMES OF MANY OF MY FRIENDS WHO WERE ACTIVE IN THE FIRE DEPT BACK IN THE MID 20TH CENTURY. THE LENHARDT FAMILY, THE FEEHANS, THE COSTIGAN BROTHERS, THE BADES, JESS ANDERSON, TOMMY ARGUST, ROCKY RANALLI, BERNICE CUNNINGHAM, PATTY AND CLIFF WILLEVER, AND I'M SURE MANY WHOSE NAMES ESCAPE ME AT THIS TIME.
SEE THE NEXT POST FOR PART 2 OF THIS COLUMN.

1939: TOM GLOVER'S "TWWW" ARTICLE ON THE YEAR 1939

I WAS ONLY SIX, BUT I REMEMBER THAT YEAR. I REMEMBER JIM SMITH'S 39 "SHARK NOSE" GRAHAM AUTO AS HE MADE FREQUENT VISITS TO THE SOFFEL HOUSE. JIM WAS A CHIEF AT THE SLACKWOOD VOLUNTEER FIRE CO. IT WAS THE YEAR OF THE TRILON AND PERISPHERE AT THE NEW YORK WORLD'S FAIR. AMERICA WAS BEGINNING TO RECOVER FROM THE GREAT DEPRESSION. IT WAS THE YEAR OF GILLETTE BLUE BLADES, '39 NASH AND LASALLE AUTOMOBILES, AND DOUGLAS DC3
AIRLINERS.

1934: THE JOYS OF CHILDHOOD

HOW WELL I REMEMBER THOSE LATE AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS WITH TONS OF RAIN LEAVING OUR NEIGHBORHOOD WITH A LOT OF VERY DEEP PUDDLES. THE YOUNGSTERS IN THE PHOTO ARE HAVING A WONDERFUL TIME PLAYING IN THE VERY TEMPORARY NEIGHBORHOOD WATERING HOLE.

1931: CIVIL WAR COMPANY A, 7TH REGIMENT

ONE OF THE MANY "TRENTON IN BYGONE DAYS" COLUMNS WHICH IS APPROPOS FOR TODAY AND TOMORROW, WHEN THE GUYS AND GALS AT THE CAMP OLDEN CIVIL WAR ROUNDTABLE STAGE THEIR ANNUAL SPECTACLE OF CIVIL WAR RE-ENACTMENTS. THIS JOHN CLEARY "BYGONE DAYS" COLUMN SHOULD BE OF SPECIAL INTEREST TO THOSE HISTORY-MINDED CIVIL WAR AND GENEALOGY SCHOLARS WHO WILL FIND THE NAMES OF MANY, IN FACT MOST OF THE MORE PROMINENT LOCAL AREA MEN WHO WERE INVOLVED IN THE WAR BETWEEN THE STATES.
===================================
TOM'S NOTE: THE GRAHIC IS NOT AS FOCUSED AS MY OTHER POSTS. THIS DUE TO THE FACT THAT IN ORDER TO CAPTURE THE ENTIRE ARTICLE, I HAD TO ABANDON "JPEG" AND REVERT BACK TO PLAIN OLD "BLACK AND WHITE."

1942: CATHEDRAL HIGH SCHOOL

THIS IS ONLY A SINGLE PAGE FROM THE JUNE, 1942 SUNDAY TIMES ADVERTISER. SOMEONE EXTRACTED THE REST OF THE PAGES. PERHAPS YOU KNOW SOMEONE FROM THAT CLASS WHO IS IN THE PHOTO VIGNETTE.

1931: TRENTON DIOCESE'S 'S MT. CARMEL GUILD

THESE WONDERFUL VOLUNTEERS WERE A GIFT FROM GOD FOR THOSE CITIZENS WHO WERE VICTIMS OF THE GREAT DEPRESSION. THIS FEATURE WAS PUBLISHED AT A TIME WHEN THE DEPRESSION WAS
AFFECTING HUNDREDS OF LOCAL CITIZENS. THE GUILD STILL SERVES THE NEEDY TODAY.

1915: So. Broad and Market Street

Pay no attention to the caption "North Broad Street;" it was one of my senior moments! Judy and I traverse this intersection every week, and I have no idea why I referred to it as N. Broad. This graphic was on a former full page Mill Hill advertising section. It has been enhanced and touched up, but early offset photos in the newspaper of that era are woefully degraded.

1915: TRENTON'S HISTORIC MILL HILL AREA

JUDY AND I ARE WEEKLY TRAVELERS TO MILL HILL AND THE SACRED HEART CHURCH ON S. BROAD AT CENTER STREET. UNFORTUNATELY, BACK IN 1915, THE PRINTERS' ART HAD NOT QUITE FIGURED OUT HOW TO REPRODUCE OFFSET PHOTOS. THE PHOTO OF THE INTERSECTION DOES SHOW THE MILL HILL TAVERN ON THE LEFT. HOWEVER, AS YOU LOOK AT THE SIGN WHICH READS, "MARCUS," YOU WILL REALIZE THAT THERE IS A HIGH RISE APARTMENT ON THAT SPOT. I REMEMBER FREQUENT TRIPS TO THE SPEEDOMETER SHOP ON SOUTH BROAD STREET. UNFORTUNATELY THE SIZE OF THIS FULL PAGE TRENTON STATE GAZETTE GRAPHIC WILL BE A PROBLEM FOR THoSE WHO DON'T HAVE AN LCD MONITOR, BUT EVEN WITH A CARTHODE RAY MONITOR, THE FASCINATING ADS FOR THE MANY MILL HILL MERCHANTS WILL COME SMILING THROUGH. THE FOLKS AT THE MILL HILL SOCIETY HAVE A FABULOUS WEBSITE. VISIT THEM AT http://www.trentonmillhill.org.

Circa 1905: Trenton's State Normal School

Thanks to Jim Puliti, a regular viewer of my website, this beautiful post card view of the State Normal School, once located on North Clinton Avenue on the site of the current Grant School.
THANKS JIM.

1931: Police Statistics During the Great Depression

There are growing "Police, Trenton" and "Police, Hamilton" folders in the digital files of the Hamilton Local History collection. This one from the Trenton folder is very interesting in light of the present controversy regarding the suppression or witholding of criminal activity in our police department.

1931: BLESSED SACRAMENT NEW CONVENT

MY SON TOM AND I SANG AT BLESSED SACRAMENT BACK IN THE EARLY 1990'S. I RECALL THE BEAUTY OF THE CHURCH ON WEST STATE STREET AND HERMITAGE AVENUE IN TRENTON.

1931: HEY ALAN WILDBLOOD, THIS ONE'S FOR YOU

I REMEMBER BILL SCHWARTZ HAVING A HEATING ESTABLISHMENT IN THE SAME NEIGHBORHOOD. AS I RECALL, BILL'S PLACE WAS NEXT TO EMERSON'S CLEANERS. A.J. BENNETT RESIDED TWO DOORS AWAY FROM 1420 HAMILTON, WHERE JUDY AND I VISITED LOUISE BAIRD EVERY NIGHT IN THE LATE 1940'S AND EARLY 1950'S. MISS BAIRD INTRODUCED US TO INEZ BENNETT, WHO BECAME A CLOSE FRIEND DURING OUR YEARS THERE.

1931: WHITE HORSE CIVIC ASSOCIATION

HAMILTON'S TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE WAS ACCUSED OF "PASSING THE BUCK" IN PROVIDING AN ACCEPTABLE WATER SOURCE FOR THE COMMUNITIES OF WHITE HORSE, YARDVILLE, GROVEVILLE, AND OTHER SOUTH HAMILTON NEIGHBORHOODS.

1935: WILLIAM CHAPMAN OBIT

SLOWLY BUT SURELY I AM LEARNING THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE VARIOUS STREET NAMES IN THE AREA. EVEN THOUGH I CAN'T VERIFY THE FACT, I AM SURE WHITE HORSE'S CHAPMAN AVENUE IS NAMED FOR THIS OLD TIME CROSSWICKS CREEK BOATMAN. I HAVE HIGHLIGHTED A PORTION OF THE PARAGRAPH WHICH TELLS OF CHAPMAN'S EARLY CAREER AS A BOATMAN ON THE DELAWARE RIVER-CROSSWICKS CREEK AREA.

1935: TRENTON COUNTRY CLUB'S NEW $13,000 POOL

ED BACK IN THE 30'S, THE TRENTON COUNTRY CLUB WAS THE MECCA FOR TRENTON SOCIALITES. THIS WAS DURING THE TIME WHEN FRED "FRITZ" KUSER WAS IN CHAMPIONSHIP TENNIS FORM.

2007: LEA AND GINNY TERRY IN AN AUTO ACCIDENT

FROM SALLY ASHMEN TO JACK LACY, HHS '56, THE FOLLOWING NEWS:

Hi Jack...FYI...Ginny and Lea Terry were in a serious auto accident in Penna. 2 weeks ago, near Bowman's Hill. Lea was driving and they were hit broadside on the passenger side. Lea was just banged up- no fractures or serious injury. Ginny, however was admitted to intensive care in St. Mary's in Newtown with bruised bladder and heart, concussion, and 22 fractures including ribs, pelvis, right scapula. She is now at Care One of Ewing on Parkway Avenue. Organs are fine now--just having daily physical therapy. They are not allowing her to walk at all but do get her up on her feet to the bathroom in a wheelchair. I visited tonight and there is no estimate of how long they will keep her there but a stay at St. Lawrence rehab. seems to be a possibility. Lea is at home and his kids are transporting him back and forth to Ewing. She is, of course, very uncomfortable but being a real trooper. Having kept herself in good physical shape swimming and walking has been very much in her favor.

2007: KUSER FARM PARK SUNDAY CONCERTS

TWO DOWN, SIX MORE TO GO! MORE THAN 200 MUSIC LOVERS ATTENDED THE PAST TWO CONCERTS HELD THUS FAR AT KUSER PARK. WHAT MADE THE EVENTS SO SPECIAL WAS THE ENTHUSIASM SHOWN BY THOSE IN ATTENDANCE. FOR EACH EVENT, I PRINTED UP 125 SING ALONG PROGRAMS. IN WEEK ONE, 4 CAME BACK, AND IN WEEK 2, ONLY 2. ALL OF WHICH PROVES WHAT I HAVE SUSPECTED THROUGH ALL MY YEARS OF CONCERTS AT KUSER.
IF YOU PLAY "LISTENABLE" MUSIC, THEY WILL COME!"

ONE OF THE MORE INCREDIBLE OBSERVATIONS WAS MADE AFTER THE CROWD LEFT. THERE WAS NOT ONE, REPEAT, NOT ONE PIECE OF LITTER LEFT ON THE GROUND!

WEATHER PERMITTING, MY SON TOM WILL BE THERE WITH HIS GUITAR, AND I WILL BE BACK AT THE MIKE THIS COMING SUNDAY (JULY 22) FROM 6 TO 8. AS THAT GUY IN THE OLD FLORIDA COMMERCIAL USED TO SAY, "COME ON DOWN!" YOU WON'T BE SORRY. UMM....LET ME QUALIFY THAT. YOU WILL BE SORRY IF YOU EXPECT TO HEAR RAP, HIP HOP, OR OTHER ACIDIC MUSIC.

1914: TRENTON'S BLESSED SACRAMENT CHURCH

HERE'S AN ILLUSTRATED ARTICLE RELATING TO A VERY AMBITIOUS "LAWN FETE" HELD AS A FUND RAISER FOR THE PARISHIONERS AND NEIGHBORS OF TRENTON'S BLESSED SACRAMENT CHURCH ON BELLEVIEW AVENUE IN TRENTON. ANY TIME I FIND A FAMILY NAME WHICH RINGS A BELL, IN THIS CASE "SPERLING," IT OCCURS TO ME THAT PERHAPS THE PERSON IN THE ARTICLE IS RELATED TO A PERSON OF MY ACQUAINTANCE. (AUDREY SPERLING?)
NOTE: I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM Ms. Marie Cleary Kleber WHO CORRECTED THIS POST WHEN I SAID THE CHURCH WAS ON W. STATE STREET. MS. KLEBER REMINDED ME THAT THE LOCATION WAS BELLEVUE AVENUE. THANK YOU, MARIE. THE CORRECTION HAS BEEN MADE. SHE ALSO REFERRED TO THE AUDREY HOMAN SPERLING I KNOW *HAMILTON HIGH CLASS OF '48).

1914: WHEN THE TRENTON AREA WAS NOTED FOR AUTO TIRES

HERE'S AN AD FROM HAMILTON'S THERMOID RUBBER COMPANY, TOUTING THE SUPERIOR "NASSAU" TIRE. 300-PLUS MILES AVERAGING 73.4 MPH!
UHH, EXCUSE ME, BUT SHOULDN'T THAT READ,
"DE PALMA AND BURMAN STAKE THEIR LIVES ON
"HAMILTON-MADE TIRES?"

1914: THIS IS ONE OF TWO FOR YOU, TIM KUSER

THE MERCER WAS IN ITS HEYDAY BACK IN THE 1910 - 1914 ERA. ALONG WITH MANY RACING TROPHYS, THERE WERE MANY VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENTS.

1914: THIS IS TWO OF TWO FOR YOU, TIM KUSER!

THE MACHINIST STRIKE OVER AT THE MERCER PLANT STARTED TO SPREAD TO THE NEARBY DE LAVAL PLANT. THINGS GOT NASTY BACK THEN AS THE UNHAPPY WORKERS WENT ON STRIKE. THE ERNIE BUSH REFERRED TO LIVED ON GARFIELD AVENUE. I PURCHASED SOME MERCER PHOTOS FROM HIM MANY YEARS AGO. HE HAD SOME INTERESTING PHOTOS OF THE MERCER IN VARIOUS AREAS AS THEY WERE BEING ROAD TESTED IN THE HAMILTON AREA.

1914: ANOTHER "BURG" FEATURE PAGE

I WONDER IF THE "HOLZBAUER" LISTED HERE IS RELATED TO THE YARDVILLE HOLZBAURS? IF YOUR MONITOR ALLOWS, DON'T MISS THE ANTI WAR GROUP FEATURED IN THE POST. SORRY FOR THE SMALL PRINT, BUT VERY LARGE PAGE EQUALS VERY SMALL PRINT, AND VERY LARGE FILE!
(HERE'S A TIP FROM TOM: IF YOU CAN'T READ THESE LARGE FULL PAGE GRAPHICS, GO TO "START" LOOK FOR "CONTROL PANEL," CLICK ON "DISPLAY," CLICK ON "SETTINGS," AND SLIDE THE RESOLUTION SETTING TO THE LEFT TO 800 X 600. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO READ THE PRINT.)
