1934: CLASS OF '34 HAMILTON SQUARE GRAMMAR SCHOOL

More familiar old line family names in the class of '34. There's Armit Harrison, the late Don Dilatush, Hooper, Rogers, Stelle, Van Horn....the list goes on.

Hi Tom; I noticed the name of Walt Krichling in that group of graduates. I believe he went on to play football with the University of Penn. If I remember correctly, he was outstanding in high school and college. That was just about the time I was going to Trenton High. Best regards.

1950: YARDVILLE SCHOOL 7TH GRADE CLASS

That second young man in the bottom row second from right is my buddy and former publisher of the late, great, Mercer messenger, Jack Lacy. I'm still checking out the other photos on the page to identify some of the other members of the class. Thanks to Jack and the members of HHS '56 for this and other photos which I have been and will be posting in the future.

1956: ST. HEDWIG'S GRAMMAR SCHOOL

Thanks to Mr. Joe San Fillippo for this photo of the class of 1956 at Trenton's late great St. Hedwig's Grammar school. The original photo had to be cropped, removing details of the stage and the auditorium floor.

1936: Maple Shade Class of '36

This and the following Maple Shade series of class photos is included in my "Maple Shade School" digital and hard copy folders in the Hamilton Library. As indicated elsewhere on this website, I have a special interest in class photos; probably due to the fact that I have met many of the individuals in the various photos from schools all over the Hamilton-Trenton-Mercer County area.

1933: MAPLE SHADE SCHOOL CLASS OF '33

These Maple Shade students are in their 90's now. I see my friend Lillian Tindall Smith from the Hamilton Township Historical Society in the front row, and another old friend, the late Al Thiel who was an active member of St. Anthony's Holy Name Society when I was president of that august group back in the 1980's. Al operated the cemetery monument business across from Greenwood Cemetery, and in some distant way is related to the late Phoebe Thiel, who was my uncle Charlie Gaudette's sister. Other names in that class are very familiar: Gropp, Stemhagen, and Markgraf.

CAN ANYONE DATE THIS ST. ANTHONY GRAMMAR SCHOOL CLASS PHOTO?

I see familiar names in there, (Donlon, Liedtka, etc.) but I can only give it a "1930's" date. If any visitor has a senior citizen who was in St. Anthony Grammar school, please enlighten us.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LAST COLUMN (FAR RIGHT) OF STUDENT IDENTIFICATION IS TRUNCATED. THE ACTUAL PHOTO WAS FROM MY COLLECTION, AND JIM O'ROURKE FURNISHED THE PHOTOCOPIED LIST OF STUDENTS. My brother in law is in there, the late Walter Britton, my dear friend, the Late Jim O'Rourke, and numerous other graduates from St. Anthony's Grammar School.

1937: Titusville Grammar School Class of '37

Here they are, the class of 1937 at the little school in quaint village of Titusville. Back in the 1980's, I visited the Titusville school yard with my metal detector, seeking out any old coins and ephemera. Anybody in the photo you recognize?

Kuser School Class of 1960 Part 1

THANKS TO MR. ED ROSINA FOR IDENTIFYING (SORT OF) THIS KUSER SCHOOL PHOTO. ED SAY HE GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL IN 1964, THEREFORE, I ASSUME THIS IS THE 8TH GRADE CLASS OF KUSER, 1960

I have a number of class photos that were thrown into the trash bin. Can you imagine anyone throwing these away? Strange, but true. Can anyone indentify the year of this photo?

Notice those school windows? Real glass! Glass was used in the schools back in the "old days" when only an occasional undisciplined and anti-social savage would throw a rock through one of them. Today, those little savages proliferate. The local authorities had to resort to a Lexan type of glazing. It was wonderful while it was new, but oxididation ultimately sets in and the "window" loses its transparency and turns into an ugly shade of brown.

Here's the other half of the very long rectangular photo of the class of 1941 from St. Anthony Grammar School. The young lady, second from the right in the first row, is my Sister-in-Law, Dolores Britton Paul. Next to her, far right first row is her friend Claire Newell Fasick.

Kuser School in the 1940's

Long, long before I met the love of my life to whom I have been married for 51 years, there were "other women" (little girls?) in my life. Let's see, the very first was Mary Lou, then Shirley, then Mary Ann, then.......The little fella with the Mel Torme pompadour hair do is yours truly, surrounded by my grammar school crushes. The lower left photo explains why it was so difficult for me to dance with the girls. Most of them were taller than I! Ahh, those dear old golden rule days just keep coming back like a song.
